Hello all, I got some questions regarding a new build I got in mind, It's aimed for gaming, so far I picked the monitor and it's this one
http://pcdiy.asus.com/2014/01/pb287q-4k-for-the-masses/

so far the best 4K @ 60Hz, so I think I would aim that babe

now for the PC itself, should I go for X79 or wait for the X99? after some google work I found out that the new X99 is coming with all native SATA6 thing and USB3.0 too - no need for third party, *fingers crossed* and the CPU itself coming for this new socket 2011-3 is going to be 6 or 8 cores jacked up to 12-16 thread, and the DDR4 support which I suppose is going to be the same speeds as the current DDR3 but with lower voltages and CLs too maybe? I dunno exactly...

The question is, should I go for a X79 build? wait for X99?? or just get the best Z87 here?

for the GPUs I might be going CF R9 290 non-ref, two cards at first and might slam the 3rd later for a decent deal when the prices are back to normal, and I hope this is enough for gaming at 4K :D

so mainly the platform is going to have a CPU, sure gonna OC it, and three cards, so what to pick? Gaming @ 4K.

Thanks so much in advance

Personally, if I was to build new right now, I'd go with 4770K and a MSI MPower board. For gaming, socket 2011 is a waste of money. It's just too much money compared to what you can get from Z87. Only way I would suggest a socket 2011 rig is for a video/audio editing machine or a number crunching machine.

As far as video card goes, judging my how my 780ti performs with my 2560*1600 monitor, I'd suggest starting out with a single R9 290. My single ti plays all the games I play at get 60 fps and very high/ultra settings. Those games are BF3, BF4, Crysis 3, and MechWarrior:Online. With a OC to 290X speeds, a single 290 should do about the same as my 780ti.

Bless you mate :) , so in terms of multi GPU system, still a Z87 a good choice? and in temrs of overclocking too? I know that Haswell is a heat reactor, and for 4 K i saw in some reviews that included the results that a single R9 290 almost 30-36 FpS, so I would put another one, but the PCI Express lanes for a triple configuration, would it be ok???
I mean in X79 and X99 probably I would end like 16 16 8 or 16 8 8 in some boards, Z87 would be a good deal for it too???

If your really worried about getting a high OC, you may want to consider delidding the haswell chip and replacing it's thermal material. But even with the stock thermal compound, you're pretty much guaranteed a 4.2-4.3ghz OC, which is about equal to my 2600k's 4.6ghz OC.

As far as the 290 only getting 30-35 fps in some games at 4k res, those were reference 290 cards that were over-heating and throttling. A non-reference cooled 290 will not have that problem. Look at the FPS results posted by 290 owners that put their cards on water-cooling.

For crossfire or SLI, Z87 is fine. For tri-fire or tri-sli, you'll want the extra bandwith Z79 provides.
