Hello guys,

Looking at purchasing the 290x at the end of next week and was wondering if the power experts think my current PSU OCZ-ZT 650W (bronze rating) will be enough.

My system specs should be viewable for you to see.

I have read a number of reviews that say the total system power draw is around 500 watts (that was with an i7 3770k ).

Some are saying that it draws around the same as a HD 7970 overclocked (around 300 watts)

So do you guys think 650W would be enough ? Here is a good review of my current PSU http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/ocz-zt-650w-power-supply-review,7.html

I have found the unit to be very reliable so i'm hoping it will be enough.

Thanks for your time and expertise in advance :)

you'll be fine with a single 290x

Yeah, just checked, my i73930k at 4.4GHz with 1.39v draws 195w under prime (using Core Temp for info, yours should draw far less). The 290x peaked at 330W under Furmark (Powercolor OC model, worst case scenario). SSD's are efficient so there's not a lot of other power draw going on. If you started to heavily overclock the card you might find some problems but at stock it should be fine.

As others mentioned, your power supply should be enough, at full load my 290x draws a little over 260W, that should leave plenty of power to your other components :)

Good luck with your new card, hope you get one with a non reference cooler :toast:

Guys thanks for the responses and information. I'm moving in the next 2 weeks so the new card is going to have to wait a few weeks. Who knows... maybe the prices might drop (and pigs might fly .. right ?) :)

If you plan on over clocking or adding extra loads such as from water cooling pumps and fans I think you are better off with at least a 800+ Watt PSU. Just to be safe and also so that you are not always pushing the system to the extremes. If you don't plan on over clocking 650W should be fine.

My tests with single 290x + 4770k with Seasonic Platinum rated 660W PSU.
