The Gigabyte GHZ Edition is $499.99 on Newegg, the lowest it has been to date, and I am sorely tempted to grab it.

Anyone have any firsthand experience with it?

If not, any comments on the performance of the Windforce cooler's noise and thermals on the non-GHZ version?

Think the 780 Classy is worth the extra $40?

Please weigh in ASAP, the $10 rebate goes bye bye Mon. and it's possible the card will revert to its usual $539.99 price too.

Thanks.

That's a good graphics card with a good cooling system.

If all you are going to do is play then just grab the Gigabyte card but if you are into overclocking and benching then I'd recommend you the 780 Classified because you can adjust voltage up to 1.35v (and more with the EVBot) while other 780s are capped to 1.212v.

You can't go wrong with any of them anyway, just keep in mind what you are going to do with it :)

Thanks, Rok.

At 1200p, I'd have no need to overclock now and I'm not a bencher, but 1440p might be in the cards in a few months and OC'ing right along with it.

With the 750 Maxwell on the horizon, I figure it's the right time to sell my 670 before its value is eroded further too. And, I figure the classy is more likely to hold its value vs the GHZ until the Maxwell sweetspot emerges and its price stabilizes.

I've seen people claiming some monster numbers on air with the classy, but it's hard to tell if they're conflating the core/boost/max clocks or just full of bull. I read about some coil whine and fan issues with the classy, anybody having em?

Well, the classy magically went up $40 overnight on Newegg, so an $80 premium over the GHZ kinda settles the matter.

Get em while they're hot kiddies.

Have you tried OC'ing it?

Legion Hardware claim to have pushed their core to 1120 MHz, the highest OC I've seen in few reviews out there. The memory on all the cards reviewed seem to be badass.

Please let me know how yours fares, got my fingers and toes crossed for ya.

Much obliged for the response.

Thanks again for the info. Unless Newegg changes the price before the NFL wraps, I'm pulling the trigger tonight.

np

At that speed Crysis 3 would crash but it did bench. I tuned it down to 1084mhz base.

I just bought the bloody thing and now you tell me you're only getting 1084 MHz on the base clock, shame on you!

I must quickly cancel my order.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
best way to OC a 780 is to get a reference and flash a custom bios with unlocked voltages/power limit and boost 2.0 disabled - you will be at stock/slightly faster than 780ti speeds for $200 less. I just got mine up to a constant (no boost) 1189Mhz Core (in 3D) on stock volts and 115% power limit - and get 11190 GPU in Firestrike (9200 total, but I am running a OC'd3470 which is holding me back a bit). I would not flash a non-reference card tho, since its way too risky.

If my temps hit the mid-high 70's, I'll give it a repaste, but I shouldn't even come close just gaming.

I'm not the guy looking for performance for performance sake and I have no interest in benching. I game at 1200p and the GHZ at stock should do me right for a good long while, I hope.

My goal is to upgrade once a year, sell my previous card, take a $100 hit, and keep it moving. If I can get $400 for my GHZ a year from now and roll that over into the Maxwell sweatspot after a price drop, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks for the comments though.

Ha! The ship has sailed, amigo. The GHZ should be on my doorstep tomorrow.

When I started this thread the classy was $40 more, $539.99 after a rebate, and I was considering it, but the pricks bumped it another $40 yesterday and I couldn't rationalize an $80 premium on top of the GHZ price. I read some problematic comments about coil whine and odd fan noises, doubted I'd ever flash the secondary BIOS, or have the need to push the classy to the point where the extra power phases and voltage mattered, but I figured it would be more desirable come resale time.

Now, as I'm writing this, the bloody classy is back at $540 on Newegg and I can't help wondering who the hell raised and then lowered the price 8% over 24hrs.

Such is life.

Nice clocks, gents.

Regrettably, I can't join the party because Newegg's free shipping went via FedEx, and instead of going right from Secaucus straight to me in NYC, these meatheads shipped my card to what I presume is their hub in Allentown, PA in order to provide me with the added benefit of a Friday delivery date. With the storm, I'll be lucky to get the bloody thing before the christ comes back.

Plus, I'm left wondering how beneficial close to sub-zero transit is for a GPU. Any ideas?

To think I was enjoying an inordinate amount of amusement due to the fact that the GHZ has indeed reverted to $539.99 today. Short lived!

I bought it during the holidays for $539 and 3 free games. A few days later they dropped the price by 30.
I had them send me a 30 dollar discount code since they had their price matching guarantee deal running on the item.
That deal appears to be over now.
