Funny you mention this. The amount of people signing up for combat MOS's in the army is dwindling. The Marines aren't having much trouble, no surprise their, lol.
I ask many Privates coming through my unit as to why they signed on with NOTEL, and their answer is simple. The ARMY provides the best means of living within means of sacrifice, oh and they don't want to shoot people. However seeing the communications with military technology I can tell you having a remote unit of robotic soldiers would only provide a weakness. That unwillingness to put your life on the line. The mission is first, ingrained in my creed, and sitting behind a desk with a joy stick or augmented reality will in my opinion never be substituted for a man and gun in a life and death situation.

That's because the Army has a branding problem. Marines use PR far better. Always have IMO. I say this with respect mind you. My entire family has been Army. Since the days before we even had a standing Army. Its just like the SEALS are according to the entire media the baddest unit on the planet yet no one mentions Delta Force or the Green Berets anymore. Its all branding man. Army does more and is in more S#!T than any other branch of our armed service. Way more than the Marines but they don't embed cameras and they shy away from the PR. THIS is why the Army today is suffering. It went from "Be all you can be" to the more timid "Army Strong". What does "Army Strong" mean to someone whos never been in the Army? Nothing. "The few, the proud, the Marines" sounds like a battle cry all in itself.

Army is going to continue to suffer until they get better marketing. Simple as that.

Look at the backlash from servicemen as far as the Syria situation, marketing only works on knuckle draggers, hence no fall off for the Marines. Most people join the Army with the hopes of bettering themselves, but not if they are gonna get maimed. People join the Marines for very different reasons.

Although I have stuff to say about the size of americas military, this is about robots that do search and rescue. I think search and rescue is a highly applicable area for robots.
