I have read all I can find on the Kaveri at this time, but the reviews aren't answering my question. I would like to see a FM2+/Phenom II comparison.

At this time what would be the better choice for a casual gamer wanting a new AMD build, FX or FM2+? I know the FX line is dead in the water, but will the "CPU" performance of the Kaveri FM2+ be worth the bother over my Phenom II? I am not so much interested in the gpu portion of the apu, unless of course it can be ran with my 7850.

Firstly, it depends on what graphics solution you are going to use, if you don't plan on using the On board GPU because you want a more powerful separate gaming solution that won't hybrid crossfire then there is little point in getting Kaveri in my opinion, if you sell your 7850 and by a Hyrbrid compatible GPU you could do well. There is little doubt that the 6 and 8 core FX chips will give you more processing power, I like the FM2+ motherboards though and I think they offer a little more than AM3+ 990 boards do. I suppose my personal view therefore is go Kaveri if you intend to make use of the on board graphics, FX if you don't.

that's a hard decision there considering no review out there "That i know of" reviews the APU with a R7 240/250 in Dual-Graphics config. and the right RAM as i've seen most setups in review only @1866 and the max is 2133 for Kaveri. with the max 2133 or higher 2600 :) i'm sure the graphics performance would be more then acceptable. take it from me, i have a 5800k with a 7750 and 2133 RAM. i can play BF3 and BF4 (BF4 currently is having major lag spikes as BF3 runs perfect) on Ultra settings @1080p and course having other settings turned down like Shadows, AA, Etc.

This. The CPU portion of AMD APU's is always playing second fiddle to the iGPU, so unless you plan on using that iGPU you're better off getting an equivalent FX solution. An FX-6300 or FX-8320 is my personal suggestion--if you plan on going AMD at least.

Kaveri looks pretty decent, but only when you are using the integrated graphics. Otherwise get 750K to run with the 7850 you have. If you have budget for i5 get it instead of AMD's offering, so far its either AMD performing on par with the i5, or the i5 beats it outright in single threaded games.

i was hoping cpu part of that apu would be more close to i5...,but im sry to say its not even close..,yesturday or day before i read review about kavery overclocked to 4.7ghz..,and even then in most games i5 runs about 10 fps faster in all games in tests...,and i never knew that cpu can give you more stabile fps(higher minimum fps)and lover frame latency!!i would never conect that two things...,i was realy hoping that this new amd cores would performe beter as i wanted to buy one..,but now im thinking a way to get to dark side(intel)

Buy a 750K/760K, overclock the snot out of it because it can, processors don't mean a great deal these days. The difference in average FPS on my 1440p monitor between my 750K @ 4.4 and my i5 4670 @ stock is pretty much invisible.

The Quads since the Bulldozer switch have always been kinda crappy. Something with the inner workings of how the modules communicate if I remember right.

That is all the APUs are right now. You'll probably get better life and enjoyment out of an FX and then give it a good GPU. Heck, don't even need to go 8350 if you go with a board and hardware which will support a decent clock. Still running 4.5Ghz on my 8320 here. Its been a beautiful clocker. Just have to turn off Load Line Calibration if you run into trouble. Most of the reviewers don't do this then get crappy clocks. Gotta think about it like this...if the 8350 can do 4- 4.3 on stock voltages then why should you have to crank up the volts to get an 8320 to do the same? Should run at stock and it does. Turn off LLC, then push it up. Bingo. I did have to nudge this up 2 notches for 4.5 but, still stable.

APU however, is the direction things are going. But to me Kaveri feels like first gen. They are trying out some new tech with it. Thats always kinda hit or miss. But APU would be the cheaper route. Just depends how far you really want to go. What your needs are. Remember the requirements of games are going to be moving up soon since the new consoles got introed. Lot of us are going to have to be upgrading in a year or two.

I have just read an article which includes feedback from AMD confirming that Kaveri will Hybrid crossfire with the R7 250 as well as the R7 240 BUT only those 2 cards, obviously until someone we know and trust actually tries it successfully they may still be a little uncertanty but at least it sounds a "little" more promising with possibly a 250 in there.

http://wccftech.com/amd-kaveri-dual-graphics-works-ddr3-memory-based-radeon-r7-gpus/

So if this is the case, just to get things into perspective, a budget mobo, CPU/APU and R7 250 for £250 can't be bad (just checked a review on the board, it will do 5Ghz)...........
