So I think my PSU is dying. I went down to it today and started it up, and it shut off at the boot screen. So I take it upstairs, hook it up and it works just fine. Take it back downstairs and hook it back up and it works fine until I start into a game, then poof... off again. So I unplug it, plug it back in and it works. So out of curiosity I start looking at temps and everything appears ok. I downloaded a utility called OOCT and go to the power supply tab, hit go and back to being off. Pretty safe to say its the supply gone bad?

If it works fine upstairs, but not downstairs, you don't have a PSU problem, you have a power problem where you are plugging it in. Are you using a power strip?

It is hooked into a surge protector, now I never tried to run the stress test upstairs, which I could do to eliminate that from the scenario. I have seen goofier things happen, I suppose I can run it back up and run the stress test.

Plugged it in upstairs and hooked to tv for monitor via HDMI, ran the stress test again and it shut off again, so I think that eliminates the surge protector, lol... Well, anyone recommend a decent PSU for my current specs. Luckily I have some cash set aside for play money. I was planning on updating my GPU and motherboard and CPU, but I guess that will have to wait.

How much power does either computer requires? If the one that works fine has lower power requirement than the other one, the PSU can still be failing. Can provide just enough juice for the one upstairs but not downstairs.

Also how are the fans on your computer? Even if the temp looked fine, clogged fan could be triggering shut down.

Sounds like a PSU issue to me based on the information you've provided. I personally recommend EVGA psu's. Fantastic warranties and solid units. I use a Seasonic, but wish I had purchased an EVGA.

This one would meet your needs based on your posted specs:

Thanks for the recs, the Antec one should work out. Plus it has a mail in rebate and a $10 promo code to save some more!
