How can you wipe a SSD

Hey guys

So my friend has a 250gb with win8 on it. I am giving him my 128gb SSD but it already has win 7 with a load of drivers on it. How can I wipe the SSD completely so that I can reinstall a fresh copy of win 7 on it?

Insert PartedMagic Boot CD, use the SecureErase utility. Only way to truly erase data from a disk permanently, besides using a drill.

Reformat using one any normal formatting method.

Edit: or RCoon's method if you have a lot of things you would rather not let your friend see.

Just formatting it with Windows 7 or 8 should be fine, because the OS have trim support.

Just reformat with your windows 7/8 disk when you boot from the windows CD. Secure erase is for people like me who have confidential data to protect
If you really want to know, google Parted Magic and download the cd image. Burn it, and then boot from it, the same as you would a windows disk.

Check if your SSD manufacturer may have a secure erase tool in their software.

As stated, if you have garbage collection or trim enabled, it will be wiped automatically.

Samsung (per your "System Specs") Magician 4.3 has a Secure Erase utility built into it: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-7PD256BW

Quick Format should work also.

It's pretty easy, I usually use gParted Live burnt to a CD.

You can also do it within Windows. Just go to:
Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
and then look on the left and you will see Disk Management.

Now right click the SSD and choose "Delete Volume". Now create a new NTFS volume once that is complete.
