Hey guys,

So I'm having another issue with my PC :(

I recently had my pump replaced and installed another 120MM radiator. I removed my ram to do so and when I booted up, my post led was stuck on 0xb7, which apparently has something to so with VRAM? I then cleared the CMOS and it booted fine.

I then tried to reload my previous over clock of 4.3GHz, 1.30v LLC Lvl 2 and I got a Bsod on boot up. I then tried lower voltages and on e again 1.30v and it booted and didn't crash during p95.

So I then tried the RAM at 2400mhZ again but it was one again stuck on code 0xb7 and when I reset the CMOS and rentered the over clock settings it crashed when I logged in.

What is weird is that when I run the ram at any clock below 2400, it runs fine. (I have the correct memory timings, 10-12-12-31 I think) the over clock also seems to stop working after I clear the CMOS. I had the cup running with those exact settings for almost a week with no issues now suddenly it will not boot...? Also the only way I can run the ram is together in the 4 right dinm sockets because the left seemed to stop working.

So far this asrock motherboard has been nothing but trouble and I will definitely be replacing it when I can afford to.

Thanks and I really appreciate all the help :/

Hi

Try reseating the CPU as that's where the IMC [Integrated Memory Controller] is that talks with the DIMM slots; [while the CPU is out of the motherboard; reset CMOS]

Note: 0xB7 Configuration Reset (reset of *NVRAM settings) is a small amount of "*nonvolatile" RAM that holds various settings

If your 2400MHz RAM won't run at its intended speed, the first thing I would do is return it and get a new one. Then with the new one test the system.

You've had a lot of issues with that board for the last 2 weeks my friend, I heartily recommend you look into RMA'ing it. Though as @Law-II mentioned, the IMC is on the processor, and that could be a viable issue. The 1866 RAM on the Maximus V 990FX board only runs at 1600mhz, and that fault is due to the motherboard being faulty but out of warranty so, that's my personal experience with RAM speed issues and motherboards.

that would be a total waste of time if it was something simple like a setting or clearing of cmos.

i believe LAW-II said it all, and most motherbaords only support 1866+ from OC mode, so you would have to select either XMP or manually set clocks etc

maybe try a bios reflash as well, could of been corrupted

i got those mems, 2400 10-12-12-31 2T 1.65v, also maybe its your subtimings that have changed and are on a lower speed profile not allowing it to boot 2400mhz

Hi

what exactly does that mean?

Errors in NVRAM generally mean that your computer hardware is not retaining BIOS settings.
[this error may be due to resetting CMOS; failing battery, loose connection between the bios chip and motherboard and or bios corruption]
