We’re mixing the freedom and mechanics of Skyrim, the setting of Mount and Blade, the storytelling styles of The Witcher and Red Dead Redemption, and the tough combat dynamics of Dark Souls into a single, gorgeous package. You could say we’d like to give ArmA (a franchise many of us worked on) an RPG makeover, streamlining the systems and controls and polishing the overarching world while keeping the unique, genuine feeling of its action and environments. Interested?

This game looks awesome. I came across it today on Joystiq, and after reading and watch the video I'm sold. Went ahead and pledged the $40 for the digital copy and alpha entry. Game looks awesome on the CryENGINE too. There's some big names behind development and they've already got a bunch done so it appears. Really looking forward to this one.

Yeah, I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on this. Looks fantastic. They passed their funding goal too.

RPS have been reporting on it a lot. The kickstarter is for $300,000 but they only did it to show their private investor that there is enough interest for him to give them the $3 million he offered. It's basically Skyrim but without the fictional magic/pixies etc, just good old fashioned medieval times with that kind of FPS combat. It's going to be released in 3 parts with about 8-9months in between each chapter. Definitely looks good, but I literally kickstart nothing.

Do note, kickstarting this gives you alpha acces but only the first chapter, if you want chapter 2 included you have to pay the much higher pledge. Besides that, each chapter will cost around $25 each.

If it has the depth Skyrim lacked it might be good.

You sir at times just astound me. Not that I'm saying Skryim had everything I wanted. But I'd say it's most glaring weakness was it's engine, not it's depth.

I've seen it on Phoronix and it looks good it's the first Cry Engine Game with Linux support. I might kickstart it at the last days. Good luck to the developers. Cheers

It had tons of content, and most of it felt shallow. You could do millions of things, and none of them really mattered. I loved the world and the feeling of exploration, but the storytelling and writing was sort of weak and that's important to me. Open worlds are fine, if it's meaningfull. "You're supposed to create your own stories" some say, but it already have stories, and quests, and dungeons. But in the end it didn't matter. It was just you and a beautiful world, filled with trees and wolves and stuff and no way of making it more than a beautiful hiking simulator. If it had proper writing and a hardcore mode it would have been brilliant. I still wish Obsidian could have a go at it.

I think you and I put value in very different things though. :)

I see some of what you're saying but I must be honest here. I'd say aout 90% of my gameplay so far hasn't been doing the main storyline. I was never able to really move on with it when I did play, I just was so enamored with the world and locations I would see I would have to explore. And those locals just looking cool were amazing, but so many of them had stories tied into them, they didn't even need them, I would have been more than happy with just the cool location. But finding a few of these places with amazing back stories made me like it even more. So most of my time was spent just wandering from one amazing looking location to another and taking in the same tidbits about them. And thats why I felt the game had depth. When I tried talking to some jackasses in the woods and they blew me off because they had a wedding to get to, and I killed them then found out they were the Groom and Bride, it just made me laugh, and was extremely entertaining thinking of some NPC's waiting for them, or what if I had followed them.

The main storyline I can't really comment on much, you could be right, but it wasn't the main storyline that really impressed me, it was the depth of the world and the details of random locations I traveled to. But as you say, different values, always another way to view a subject. Either way, back on subject.

This does look like an interesting game, I'm not sure if I will buy it yet or not. It really matters on the scope of the world, if it truly is open and they can pull off some of these massive battles I'll probably be in.
