Let's imagine you are planning a huge LAN party right in the middle of nowhere with nearly no infrastructure. Or you are company whose data center needs a temporary upgrade. Or imagine you want to serve a place, that suffers from a natural disaster, with computational power. What do you think might help you out on that? Exactly - Sun's Blackbox, a complete data center designed for rapid redeployment, unmatched flexibility and breakthrough economics stuffed into a 20-foot shipping container.
Introduced last year, in October, the Blackbox is still in a prototype stage, but Sun already decided to turn it into a commercial product. While this prototype is on a tour through the U.S. the guys from Ars Technica attended a guided tour at its stop-off in Seattle, Washington. The detailed review of the Blackbox, and its different compartments, makes the article a very interesting read.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
What ports do they use when you decide to stack them?

:D

On a side note. I want one. There is probably enough physical memory to hold our entire database.

Cool, a hire-a-datacentre (just like hiring a port-a-loo), all you need is a genset and you're up an running. Great for disaster recovery purposes.

If Los Angeles was hit by a large magnitude earthquake, this could be deployed to provided data management for key infrastructures during recovery.

Maybe for pencil pushers who need to use Word. Not good for infrastructure though. This would be all integrated and ready in one package. You would have to have an army of IT specialists to get that many laptops to work together, not to mention linking them all.

It's a data centre mate, not game station.

So what happens if you walk up to it with a high voltage taser ;)

Seriously, all I can think about is what if one of those was stolen @_o or ended up in a country like Iran?

i like this thing... if only i can buy it! hehe...

Another that similar to this is the Whitebox by APC, the difference it is built with 18-wheeler truck... just like what u see on futuristic movies. For me, the Whitebox seems much convenient and efficient bcoz can be moved at any times.
