Hi TPU :)

I willing to buy some RAM for motherboard GA-P43-ES3G (rev. 1.0) So I found motherboard support 1.8v.
Is that mean I will not be able to run RAM that support 2.0v or more?

e.g CM2X1024-6400C5DHX

I am not overclock.

thanks for help.

Yeah select any 1.8V DDR2 667/800 MHz RAM. They are still available in local market for a relatively high price and some online stores. Good luck.

I don't understand?!
Why gigabyte shows that MB it can run ram at 1.9v or 2.2v etc. If you check memory list you will see there is lot of ram take more than 1.8v.

Check this link: :Memory modules listed

That make me crazy. I spent more than 4 hours to get a little idea, but now I have white hair. :shadedshu:

Yeah those >1.8V RAMs are also supported. You might have to manually put the settings in BIOS(voltage and timings) according to the RAM spec. :)

Check your BIOS now. If the voltage can be changed now, they can also be changed later. Note the options and you are good to go.
BTW, if the RAMs are on the QVL, they are definitely supported.

Most of the time BIOS will set the voltage automatically, probably wont need to touch a thing.

They often just typically tell you the lowest recommended models/specs in motherboard manuals. If they do have a list, it's usually less than 1% of the RAM available on the market that is compatible with that motherboard. Of course this can be confusing someone new to the hardware.

You can use higher performance RAM, that uses more voltage, if you would like.

As long as the motherboard supports DDR2, and the memory you are putting into is DDR2, you really should not have any problems.

Benchmark Scores probably high
it should be fine, most ddr2 sticks run at 2v at the highest, but 1.8 is still normal range, just buy them

the qualified ram list on gigabyte's site has some OCZ listed that is apparently all the way up to 2.35v

now i looked at the manual, it mentions overclocking & overvoltage, so what you could do is go into your bios to see how high you can set the dram voltage in case you cant run a high speed high voltage stick at its stock settings, but i expect it to be fine

it seems the official standard of ddr2 is 1.8v, but just like intel's 'max fsb' or 'max ram speed' standards, it doesnt block anyone from running faster & more power hungry components

dont forget, nothing is stopping you from running high speed high voltage ram at lower speed & 1.8v, in fact i think ram is supposed to come with default settings stored so that anyone can boot in the first place, it's likely that when you put such ram in for the first time, it wont be running at the speed that the model claims it can run at, then you just go into bios & adjust the voltage, speed, timings to what the stick is rated at

yeah :) they are in QVL. I have buy this before 4 hours 4x1GB CM2X1024-6400C4. Hope I do right choice.

yeah , that was my basic idea, but since I have read lot of thread about voltage I feel I go back to dinosaurs age. They make me confuse.
most thread as I read says " MB support 1.8v can run RAM with that value only," and other says "if someone try to run RAM more than 1.8v on MB that support 1.8v that could be explosion capacitors or worst >> burnt CPU socket" :twitch: .

e.g MB 1.5v can't handle RAM 1.65 or + and so on.

that's different, the gigabyte mobo is socket 775 where its intel P43 northbridge chip is the memory controller & the mobo spits out the voltage, while the talk of a burnt cpu socket has to do with newer intel cpus that have the memory controller built into the cpu (but i'm pretty sure intel's spec tops out at 1.65v not 1.5v)

now when you first boot up, the ram will probably not be running at the rated speed, it will probably 1.8v CL5 or CL6 so you'll just adjust the settings in the bios to match the ram ratings

Im not sure what you mean by that statement, but really you should not have any issues. The standard voltage for DDR2 was 2.1v.

You are mixing up current motherboard/CPUs/Memory, with older DDR2 stuff. They are not the same, do not require the same voltage. Its much different.

Rule of Thumb: If the motherboard supports DDR2 memory, better be putting DDR2 memory in it.
Same for DDR3. But you are not dealing with DDR3.

A motherboard that supports DDR2 memory, should be able to supply memory voltage of 2.1v and sometimes even more. If so, lower then that should be a given.
