Hi guys,

I have recently bought a new laptop of which specs are:-

Dell Inspiron 15R 5537, Core i7 4500U 1.8GHz
8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Integrated Intel Graphics 4400
AMD Radeon HD 8850M GDDR5 2GB

The problem is that initially i was unable to install any of the driver for my GPU as none of them detected it. I tried official AMD driver and the one from Dell downloads but none worked. Finally i was able to install it by installing latest beta driver from AMD website. Now the driver works perfectly fine but when i run a third party utility "GPU-Z", My AMD Card is shown as HD8600M with strange memory specs. ThHe GPU-Z utility is showing some strange readings i.e. 0MHZ both Core and Memory Clock and 64bit Bus Width. I am confused that if my laptop even had HD8850 or not. Have i been made fool of????? Did the seller sold me the wrong laptop for the price of HD8850M?????? Or is there is somethign wrong with the installed drivers. Guys please me out here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't had that specific issue, but I have had issues with my 3540 and it's 8850m and drivers. The most stable solution:

Dell Intel GPU drivers for Windows 8 x64 9.18 + Dell AMD GPU drivers Win 8.1 x64 13.151.0.0

Some drivers will play nice, some won't. If you google that model and HD 8850M you'll find thread after thread of issues. I am determined to make everything work with mine. I was able to get 14.4's to work really well except in certain situations...I though I had it all figured out...but alas not so. But the best results I found are the 9.18 Dell Intel drivers and AMD 14.4 whql's.

My solutions for the 3540 might or might not work. but the GPU is ID'd correctly. Though using 14.4's my GPU is ID'd as a R9 265x or something like that. Trust what the OEM custom drivers say...they were designed for that model and hardware.. Intel + AMD switching is sketchy...I wish it was as-good-as NV Optimus.

I have heard these lappys work great in Ubuntu, especially the newest one with low-level gpu switching support. But I'm determined to make Win8.1 play nice.

its true what kursah says, intel/amd graphic solution is a picky beast...

i have tthe previous gen intel and amd (7670m) and the latest windows update intel driver and 14.4 works on mine now. it wasn't always the case though as before it would only work with certain verisons of each...i think they are getting better but *shrugs*

see what CCC tells you about your graphics...all else fails, uninstall both intel gpu and amd gpu drivers and try the latest intel driver first, reboot and then try amd driver, its very picky in its install and verison
