GTX 850M drivers for Linux - do they exist?

A laptop I'm looking at comes with options for either a GeForce GT 740M or a GTX 850M. However I can find no trace of Linux drivers for the former. Just wanted to confirm if anyone knew of any, or if they were pending?

I know the 740 is supported on Linux.

Thanks in advance

Oh... I couldn't find anything, even searching on NVidia's own site. Do you have a link? Thanks.

Hmm, not for me. OK, under manual driver search:

- I select GeForce
- I select GeForce 800M Series (Notebooks)

...and the only option in the next drop-down is the 820M, no 850M.

Found this interesting topic :

Slashdot.org:

The GeForce GTX 860M and 850M are essentially identical to the desktop GeForce GTX 750 Ti, save for different frequencies and memory configurations.

So the closest driver release supporting the later are v334.21 :
32bits / 64bits

But it's improbable this release will detect your card properly, since the specific PCI-E device ID isn't listed in the inf file.

Simply said : there's no linux drivers for your Geforce 850M, not even remotely.

edit : just downloaded and extracted the .run installer : as expected it's all down to the geforce 850M device PCI ID not listed.

Aha, so no Linux support for 850M. Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if they plan support for it...

The INF can be edited to support the 850M

Add

NVIDIA_DEV.1391.228C.103C="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M"
NVIDIA_DEV.1391.228D.103C="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M "
NVIDIA_DEV.1391.228E.103C="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M "

What's an INF? This is getting a bit beyond my comfort zone... :)

I'm afraid there's no such things in linux drivers
