Hello!
I just installed this card before 2 weeks but my system seems to have a problem when GPU is on full stress. This happens only in 3 games (COD Ghosts, Red Faction Armageddon and Assasin's Creed Liberation HD) at random times when I play.
At first, this was happened more often, and now that I underclocked my cpu to 3.6ghz with less voltage, It seemed to be a little more stable for 2 days, until it crashed once again last night while i was playing. My screen just goes black and the system crashes(sound remaining at first moments) and the only thing i can do is restart.
My thought is that I have a PSU problem(I have THERMALTAKE TR2 550W). Sapphire says 750watt supply is required, and also somebody in a forum wrote that this card needs almost 350watt in full stress! Really hungry.. If this info is correct, I feel that I need a new PSU.. I hope it is that way, I dont want to think that card is damaged. I must mention that I dont have any other problems, like flickering or black screen, or crashes when i dont play games. And this happens only in these 3 games I mentioned above. Also PSU is really noisy when I play games..The same thing happened with my old 7950, but now I have these crashes, too. I haven't tried another psu till now, I just want to ask your opinion. Any help from you will be valuable.
Thanks in advance.

$400 GPU and a $50 PSU. That would be my guess. Stay away from Thermaltake PSUs. Seasonic, Corsair, Enermax. You may not need 750w but you need to spend at least $100 for a PSU or close to it. The Seasonic G series would be my recomendation. Or SeaSonic S12G-750

I really hope it is the problem.. It could be gpu's bios problem but i have the latest version(041)...I hope it is the psu. What psu do you suggest and how many watts? if it is the problem.

I am not sure if it is the psu.. there are a lot of similar stories with black screen crashes from people having these specific cards,,but most of them had other issues like flickering etc.. But I would buy another psu anyway, not only for this card, It is very very noisy.. I chose XFX Pro Series 750W Black Edition

I tried to underclock my cpu to stock speed and for now it seems stable.. i will test it like this until new psu arrived and see if it is a power problem or not.

well.. i underclocked cpu at stock, and i removed secondd hdd and dvd-rom and crash happened again.. 2 times. At second time i had no blank screen, sound crashed too..

I googled and after reading microsoft support site about this event I suppose it is more likely to be a power supply problem..

I am on this scenario:

" Scenario 3: The system randomly restarts and no Stop error BugcheckCode is listed, or the computer is completely unresponsive (hard hang)

The Stop error code and the PowerButtonTimestamp are listed as zero. For example, consider the following scenarios:
The Stop error BugcheckCode value is listed as zero. Circumstances can prevent writing the Stop error BugcheckCode information before the computer restarts or shuts down. In this case, a BugcheckCode value of zero is logged. Also, perhaps no Stop error occurred, and the shutdown resulted from a power loss. For example, on a portable computer, this could mean that the battery is removed or completely drained. Or, on a desktop computer, this could mean that the computer was unplugged, or a power outage occurred.
The PowerButtonTimestamp is listed as zero. Circumstances can prevent writing the PowerButtonTimestamp information before the computer restarts or shuts down. In this case, a value of zero is logged. This can occur if the power button is pressed and held for at least four seconds when Windows has an operation running that prevents writing the event to disk. You might also see this scenario if the computer is “hard-locked” and therefore unresponsive to any input, and the computer has to be powered off. To determine whether the computer is unresponsive, try pressing the CAPS LOCK key to toggle the CAPS light on the keyboard.
To check whether this scenario is occurring, press the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard. When you do this, if the CAPS LOCK light on the keyboard does not change when you press the CAPS LOCK key, the computer may be completely unresponsive (hard hang).

This scenario usually indicates a problem with the hardware.
To help isolate the problem, check the following items:
Overclocking: Disable overclocking to see whether the issue occurs when the system is run at the correct speed.
Check the memory: Verify the memory by using a memory checker. Verify that each memory chip is the same speed and that it is configured correctly in the system.
Power supply: Make sure that the power supply has enough wattage to appropriately handle the installed devices. If you added memory, installed a newer processor, installed additional drives, or added external devices, such devices can require more energy than the current power supply can provide consistently.
Overheating: Check whether the system is overheating by examining the internal temperature of the hardware.
Defaults: Reset the system back to the system defaults to see whether the issues occur when the system is running in its default configuration. "

Any info/opinion would be useful , Thanx in advance

I finally took XFX 750w psu(it runs fine until now) and I have the smae problem with black screen In Assassins creed Liberation which I tested. I also have this problem when running furmark stress test and try to launch gpu-z after that. 80% of times I do It, system crash with black screen.. :/ .. I also saw that core clocks dont stay at 1020 constantly they drop to 870 and then go to 1020 again while gpu stressing.. I am thinking to go to the shop i bought to get another card but I dont know If they can find the problem cause it is on specific games and in the case of gpu z and furmark.. I also made a ticket to sapphire support after registering my product, explaining them my situation and waiting for their answer.

As in Power supply shut down due to Over voltage protection? Hmmm, sounds rather likely that your PSU being noisy then the system crashes....one plus one?

My best answer is PSU. Get a bigger better one. :)

Thanks for answers, it is not the psu, I have an xfx 750watt now 80+gold. My previous thermaltake 550w was ok,too. It isn't psu fault i am sure now. ALso gpu, cpu/mobo temps are absolutely fine.
Also i dont have blue screen of death, Never. I only have these black screens in these specific situations I mentioned above.

If you bought the GPU from a shop, just get a replacement, it doesn't hurt. With a 750W psu its certainly not a lack of power in the system. But that GPU speed change you mention from 1020mhz to 870mhz is not necessarily bad - if that looks like spikes on the graph then its normal (may be wrong software reading) but if it happens for a long time (i.e. gpu speed drops to 800mhz for a minute) then you have a problem with the gpu's power, which could either be overheating VRMs or bad power delivery (hence why ppl told u to upgrade psu first). That combined with black screens in games looks like a bad gpu to me. From what I know, if it was the PSU's fault your system would simply shut down or crash and then shut down.

I hope u bought the gpu from Plaisio, cause they still are the only ones who don't question you when you want to replace a product under warranty.

PS: I currently have a friend that runs an i5 and an HD5870 which is a 300W card on a 500W generic PSU, so I doubt 550W wouldn't be enough even if it was shit quality, however noisy PSUs are always so annoying, so u did well to change.

Yes it is a gpu problem for sure. I bought it from plaisio(ellinas??) yes, I hope they change my card, i am not sure, because my issue happens only in specific games and in the case of running gpu-z after furmark..I would be happy if they change my card and find the problem .. but i am not sure. I wish.....

Yep Ellinas.

It is well known that some problematic gpus from amd show problems only in certain games (example: artifacting in 3D games on previous gen cards appearing only in certain games for no obvious reason) because the card is of bad quality yield.

Quick example, my previous HD7970 would artefact in FEW games/apps (eg, Witcher 2, 3dmark11) if I overclocked the VRAM even by 20-30mhz only while in other games (Crysis 2 and 3) I could overclock the vram by more than 100Mhz without problem and even finished the whole games without single issue. Now, imagine on a bad yield card which is factory oc'ed, this issue would appear even on stock clocks.

Yes this issue happens when I set my card to stock clocks,too.(850 or 870). I also forgot to mention that when i tried to open gpu-z (after crash with furmark and restart) throwed me a message that said that There was an opencl detection problem last time gpu-z tried to open..(this message showed only once).
Thank u anyway my friend... I spoke with plaisio's technicians and they told me that they will check the card informing their test center with my specific conditions and if they find it faulty they will RMA to sapphire.

There;s just one thing left you should check. Did you install the new card and then formatted? Or did you just remove the older one and replaced it with the new with a simple driver uninstall+reinstall? It could all simply be a problem of old drivers driving the wrong card... even if u uninstalled, there is a special tool that actually will remove the leftover trash which you should use before installing drivers for a new card. Because AMD drivers never really get removed, they are a mess in those terms.

No i didnt format, just removed old card(7950) and then uninstall/install new drivers. It is the only thing I didn't do yet. ( I still think it is a faulty gpu cause i have a power loss when black screens happens). As about special tool do u mean driver sweeper? I didn't use it till now. Would you suggest formatting? or just use something like driver sweeper.

edit: I have windows 8.1 64. 7950 worked fine there. And on my previous WIn 7 Ultimate 64.

I know AMD has a program but I have no clue about its name. Someone else on this forum could help you with that or you can search google, cause I seriously don't know more than that. But its worth the try.

I found amd clean uninstall utility and another software ( display driver uninstaller). I will try..

*Edit: I tried with Amd Clean Uninstall Utility and with Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU).(second is better , it found refernces to my old card 79xx series, thing which amd's tool didn't..). Black screen happened again(at least with gpu-z and furmark..I will try the game, too but i am sure that I haven't solved my issue with this.) So I will get it to the store next days to check it..I wish they will finally RMA it and give me a brand new fine working card instead. OK I can live with that problem, but I can't accept it for a €300 gpu.. I really need to solve it, and I hope I will.. Thanx anyway for your info. I will post info again in the short future.
