I think I've met 1 person on the whole of TPU who owned a 7990, and one or maybe two who owned a 690. They become obsolete too fast.

Hey now....The 690 still beats a (single) titan in actual game tests. As long as you grab the flagship late & used for say 70% of retail, the price/performance can work out. I'm very happy I grabbed the 690 instead of a titan. I would not want it with air cooling though. :p

The reveal video specifically has the words "...if a guy wanted a cheap compute server under his desk..." when referring to Titan-Z. It is designed as a cheap compute card.
then if that's their purpose you're better off buyinf a r9 290, its computational power is much higher

same for the HD6990 still happy with it, lucky i didn´t grab the 7990 since
the 295x2 will be a better choice, by that fast timeframe between both

my old rig runs a 4870x2 still OK for a six year old card

hopefully they release a reference design.......

lol liquid cooling that's why I don't buy amd gpus !!
Nvidia all they way :)

Unless the rig already is water cooled...then a water block is perfect. In general until the Maxwell gen, I find that high power GPUs are much better liquid than air cooled. Furthermore, no need to break any warranty by mounting a block. Hopefully Nvidia will answer with a dual 780, and not priced at the lunacy fringe. I'd get AMD cards if I didn't need CUDA for rendering.

Unless you are careless.... no need to worry about voiding the warranty with a water block. Just make sure to keep the stock thermal pads and slightly heat up and remove any warranty seals. :)

Or buy from eVGA, most of the time they are fine with aftermarket cooling, if you RMA it they may charge you $20 for new screws and paste, but they take the card even though it is very apparent you had a block on it (I am sure water damage would be a different story).

The heat and remove is a good one. But a lot of little things can still go wrong and with a factory mounted block, there's less to worry about, no need to keep the parts, less work... Although I have to admit I've only bought separate blocks and mounted them, mostly because there were so few premounted editions around at the time.

Somebody needs to deal with these new users and teach them the wise ways of "How to not make your first 100 posts make you look like a tool".
i dont understand why u so feel annoyed with my post, this is free forum... im so sorry if i had wrong way for comment i just want to share my opinion... I just guess the price maybe come out later based price fx series equipped with water colling with 100$ higher price in my country, plus R9 290x with 550$ price and based 999$ on 7990 before, so i just guess 1500$-2000$(or less) its BEST price for R9 295X2 later

:toast: There no lies betwen us :D

How many gamers do you know with a $1.5K ARES / MARS card? Even less will spring for a $3K TITAN Z card for gaming.

I don't know anyone personally that even spends as much as I do on cards. The last one set me back $400.

I did see 1 person post here that he had 2 Titans in his rig but this is an enthusiasts site so I guess there are some members here that will spend it if their monitor setup makes it necessary for the 6GB VRAM and the performance of SLI Titans but the $3,000 Titan Z would just be a waste of money imo.

I wish AMD the best with this card because someone's need to pull Nvidia back to reality with their prices.

If it is 2 xt's I wonder how much of hit the clocks will take, because I can't see them putting 2 on at the stock clocks, 2 pro's though I can see. The Titan Z is more of a compute card, If you buy it for gaming then I don't see the point really.

to me the only thing that would make this card fail in terms of price are the miners for obvious reasons.

It's going to be a paper launch unfortunately and available in 3+ months, ala 7990.

Even though it doesn't compare to TitanZ, I am looking forward to seeing comparison tests.

I don't believe LiteCoin miners will be enthralled with water cooling, or the see much practicality of dual cards. While to me there'll be even less ROI, once they don’t need them, to get rid of it they'll lose big time! The devaluation and the ability to find a buyers for two 290X seems a smarter bet.

I might not think that's the case AMD can secure a good amount and the market isn't like going to gobble them up like the 290X (first mining hoarding the cards is waning, along with what was said above). Perhaps the one pacing issue is the water block/cooler and having it supplied. The 7990 was behind, but that had more to do with TSCM and their early 28Nm issues. Being why it was released as "Malta" and not the original "New Zealand", but that was a different problem.

Wouldn't it be funny if AMD launched a next-gen card now while NVidia re-hashes old tech?

A new architecture solely for a big die limited edition dual GPU card ? If you consider Maxwell a re-hash of Kepler, then "next-gen" I assume would be a new µarch. Can't wait until you're quoted by rabid fanboys as "proof" that Pirate Islands is arriving next week

Whilst you're at it why not include AMD using fairy dust to magically adapt TSMC's low power CLN20SOC process for a high performance GPU in your dreaming....maybe a surprise no-one-saw-it-coming HBM implementation a year ahead of schedule.

As far as I'm aware, both AMD and Nvidia are waiting on TSMC's 16nm FinFET process (20nm BEOL + 16nm FEOL) in early 2015...so chances are, one or the other will launch a new architecture before the other, but I'm picking it won't be next week.

.......you know ...no matter our logical reasoning, fact and common sense..... people will still buy this thing......just because they can......and when the next great thing comes along...they'll just throw this in the drawer/ closet and forget about it. To us this is alot... to some .....its just a bobble.

It would be nice if they could get their 20nm process working well enough, let alone 16nm.

Pretty sure NVIDIA has a GTX790 in the works to compete with this card.
