Minimum Graphic Quality

Yesterday I found a thread called, "Worst texture you have found in Crysis 2 contest!!". This pic particularly stood out:

After looking at this thread I had a thought. All these companies are so focused on producing the best looking games. The result is that we have games like Crysis 3 that look lifelike. But I think that from now on, it would be better for us if companies focus on making the worst looking graphical assets in their games look better and if possible make them look just as good as the best looking graphical assets in their games.

Any thoughts?

I feel like graphical quality in a game should be more about consistency than moments of extreme bling because if there is one thing that breaks my immersion the most it's walking through a badly textured hallway and running into a texture that looks like it's from Crysis or even worse the whole games is gorgeous and there is a texture that is fugly as hell. The worst for this is Planetside 2 because with long distance scopes the player models and explosions render in maximum quality but the ground they are standing on is blurry making the players/effects standout horribly.

If you wanna see crap textures, load up a vanilla Skyrim. The textures in that game are so awful, especially anything pertaining to snow--the city in the Northeast is especially terrible.

I don't think I've played any games that the textures really stand out in. I know there are some good ones, but I like going into games and going up to random things and looking at the textures to see how bad (or possibly good) they are.

I think there will be some improvements in games since the next gen consoles have sold several million each but I look at the tens of millions of Xbox 360s and PS3s that people are still gaming on and it makes me wonder if developers won't be developing games to the lowest common denominator. The next gen consoles aren't backwards compatible and I guess if someone owns dozens of last gen games then they aren't going to give those up for a next gen console easily. The cost of the console means little compared to the investment in games. The stores are even still selling Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles.

I'm very happy with the current level of graphics and usually don't care if there are some low res textures at places. I'd rather see some new mechanics, better stories and characters. And RTS games.

I'm happy with games that look like crap if they are fun to play. I probably played Act Raiser for a good 10 hours this weekend...and old SNES game.

I have no issue with it as long as "Maximum Graphic Quality" looks good. I don't mind lower end machines being able to run current titles. I don't see the issue with interchangeable textures.

There are many people like me that gladly gave up our old 360's and PS3's for the next gen consoles even though we had loads of games.

Well, they can always run games at lower settings. I think he was talking about "Minimum Graphic Quality" when you are running maxed out on a high end GPU.

GTA is always worth a fun replay if nothing else, I still have my PS3, PS2, PS1, Xbox (original), N64. I sold my Atari 2600, NES, and Genesis though.

PS2 is worth keeping to play Vice City. N64 is my favorite of all the systems though. The graphics are terrible but the gameplay is so good.

I personally don't care about the graphics that much as long as the gameplay offsets it, Its one of the reasons I keep finding myself playing indie games now, I'd pick genesis as my favorite though.

I personally never sell my consoles once I buy them(sometimes I will trade my games though but usually not sell them), even if they die I still keep them(parts) but many of the more casual people I know sell everything soon as a new console comes out or when they want to switch, the majority of people don't keep games either I believe, they sell em with the console.

I dont care about graphics that bad. I am WAY more concerned with averages. The OP SS would drive me INSANE. however crysis and crysis 3 did a good job at equality.

I couldn't care less about the graphics though, even If I'm kinda a graphics whore sometimes, As long as consoles are around, I wouldn't even hope for insanely awesome graphics on PC even if they can handle it.

as long as the gameplay is great for me and i like to play it, any decent graphics will work for me. you could say I'm a graphics, performance and gameplay guy.

DayZ, Diablo III, CSGO, and Kerbal Space Program are my most played games during recent times and they don't look that good compared to top tier game graphics in Crysis or Battlefield, maybe only DayZ, I like to run them at max settings though, if possible. so I guess that's the graphics whore in me.

I was just reading an article about MS looking into making the Xbox One backward compatible with 360 games through an emulator and if they do that I think it would sell a ton of Xbox Ones. I know I would buy 1. It's just talk right now and apparently it would be difficult to do but at least they're looking into it.
