I have this mouse Madcatz Cyborg Rat 5 and It had a problem. the sensor totally stops working, the buttons and scroll wheel still works, only the sensor.

I sent it to RMA and they repaired/returned it now, but not even 1 month after return, it's starting to do this again.

This time I tried troubleshooting it to see how to fix this and what's causing it before returning it to RMA again

I observed that It works right after you plug it in, then after a couple of seconds or minutes (depending on how long it was unplugged) the sensor would stop working. If you remove and replug it in immediately it will not work. I suspect this is the mouse overheating. Is such a thing possible? anyone else who has experienced this on any mouse?

It's gonna be RMA'ed again so no problem, I just wanted to know what's causing it. or maybe the possible fixes in case it happens again when its out of warranty.

edit: little typo on the title

I've recently seen this happen with the Intel USB 3.0 driver (on all ports, even 2.0), try uninstalling it and see if that improves things.

I had a RAT 7 about 2-3 years ago which had exactly the problem you describe. Unplugging the mouse and re-plugging it was the only solution to my issue. Mine sometimes worked a whole day without issues and the next day the laser would stop working about 5-10 times a day. Before developing this issue I had a problem with only the Y-axis laser stopping to respond, while the X-axis still worked. One day it died and I don't know if I was sad for paying 100 Euro for this BS or happy that my pain and anger was over for good. Even if it was still under warranty, seeing the super-long thread about problematic RAT mice (with exactly the same problem) I decided to buy a Corsair M60 (which had just come out) then and finally got rid of this issue.

Half a year later the middle mouse button of my Corsair was dead, so I RMA'ed and got a M65 instead! lucky!

Bottom line: buy Logitech next time :p

Ditto, at least the Intel 3.0 controller on my laptop. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Haven't had any issue with the 2.0 ports.

That is the exact same problem I had, I didn't mention it but I had the exact same one axis problem before completely losing the whole sensor.

I would definitely avoid madcatz/cyborgs/rat products in the future. lesson learned.
