Just finished build, specs I went with:

Got windows 8.1 update 1 x64 on there

Couple of questions:

- I installed in using a monitor with a res of 1920x1200, will this auto-change when it's plugged into a lower resolution monitor?
- Should I keep the warranty paperwork?

Cheers for help so far

Yes it will auto detect the resolution.

Yes keep the warranty work, this is for somebody else, so just incase you won't burn your wallet!

Q1: Yes, it should autodetect and change, might need a monitor driver...but Windows should handle that without issue.
Q2: That depends...if they are going to be referring to you for further repairs and issues with this build then yes...I tend to have the customer keep that stuff. That way if something fails, they need to be on the ball with it...otherwise you'll have stacks of paperwork after a few builds.

too late, that's the OS I'd recommend but they wanted 8.1 and 8GB just ensures it's somewhat future proof although 4GB would've been fine too :)

I don't even understand why she needs a PC. This is a case for an iPad if I ever heard one.
Surprised no one else mentioned this.

She's got quite a bit of money so I could build something half decent just without a graphics card.
dont forget about some studio-grade sound card like asus essence stx, or a good mobo with not so bad audio, like asus hero 1150+ i5 4670k. AO(another option) you can give her your's pc without a GPU, and build new one with a haswell refresh.
