Just from my experence of trying it. I use to be die hard set on usiing the motherboard to control fan speeds but most do a poor job.

Yup I can use other fans but maybe 2 x bitfenix spectre pro 200mm 7.92 watts

ive got 2x230 and 6x140 for my case, you also have to remember the PSU acts as an exhaust or intake fan too

Does the psu affect the airflow of the case?
I think that it doesn't affect the airflow of the case because the intake fan is at the bottom of the case and the exhaust is at the back of the case and its airflow is isolated because there are no holes in the PSU only at the Outer back of the case

my psu is Seasonic M12II - 750w 80plus bronze by the way
