GPU Upgrade - 670 Sli, 780 Ti or wait for Maxwell

I currently have an Asus 4GB GTX 670 (GTX670-DC2-4GD5) and I run a 144Hz 1080p monitor. I'm thinking of upgrading because it just can't run the games I play anymore (such as BF4, DayZ SA) at graphics I am satisfied with. I have a few choices:

1. Get another 670 - Although this is the cheapest option they are pretty difficult to get a hold of these days and not too keen on SLI from what I've heard

2. Get a 780 Ti - An expensive upgrade but I will be able to sell my current 670 for £150-£200 on e-Bay or Amazon

3. Wait until the next line of Nvidia cards come out (which I believe are called Maxwell though don't quote me on it)


I guess the 780 Ti is a good option because I can just pair it up with another 780 Ti in the future however I have never SLI'd before and haven't heard positive things about it so would rather just stick with a single card and sell the current one I've got. Also how long will it be until the next Nvidia cards come out because if its one or two months I can wait but if its gonna be another 6 then I will probably go for the 780 Ti.

i7 3770

Asus GTX 670 4GB DirectCU II

16GB Ram (Don't know brand or MHz though not really relevant)

Windows 8.1

2TB Hard Drive (Again, don't know brand or RPM though don't think its really relevant)

Getting a single powerful card is always the best option than SLI/Crossfire(since some games can be buggy with SLI/crossfire). If you're not in a tight budget, go for a 780ti / r9 290x. And in the future just get another card if you decide to do so. However, if you are in a tight budget, 780ti /r9 290x is a bit overkill for 1080 gaming -unless you plan for 4k or multi-display gaming.

I have 680s in sli and never had any compatibility issues with games. I had a lot more problems with amd crossfire. Only issue so far was no sli support in titanfall but i only played the alpha.

My 680s will beat down any titan. Get the 670 if possible and ride out sli for the next generation or 2 then upgrade

Hell if you have the 4gb, maybe 670 4gb in sli won't be bad for some time, thats a lot of vram, idk if the 256 bit can even really make use of 4gb though. its hard to find gk104 sli benchmarks for 2 vs 4gb, just single card benchmarks.

670 is almost a 680 in performance so sli 670s would be pretty badass.

Get another 4 Gig 670. If possible get the same exact model you have now.

I would rather not get a second hand card and I can't find another 670 that is the same model as mine new from a website I trust. Since the verdict was pretty much split between SLI'ing and getting a 780 Ti on another forum I posted on, I have decided to get a 780 Ti.

I would vote for 780Ti as well, since that is what I would do. I prefer single powerful cards as well to skip any issues that may come up with dual cards. I personally would go for the MSI Gaming version because of the great twin frozr coolers.

I've had zero issues with sli with gtx285s and gtx480s. No micro-stutter, no lag. Don't get the "sli has issues" thing.

but adding a second could be useful but again u need to think about how well the games like SLi if u r planning to do that.

i got a Asus GTX 670 4GB myself, and i have been thinking about buying a MSI GTX 780 Gaming instead or waiting for Maxwell but with Nvidia now is getting forced to re-design Maxwell to 28nm instead of 20nm bcs of TMSC can't keep up with the production sadly.

i think that the GTX 780 is in a good price range for now even been thinking about used GTX 780 Ti or Titan but again i am mostly playing Aion and it's going quiet well with my GTX 670 4GB but there are a few new titles i am looking forward to and i run a 27inch monitor at 2560x1440@120hz so i need more power in my small ITX system.

Then just get a 780. Its a good upgrade and plenty for a 1080. No need for the Ti

With the 780ti OC version you will have a few years playing 1080p games at highest settings, in case of a relevant performance upgrade on the upcoming series then you can always resell your card and buy the new one, that's are my thoughts as i currently have an Asus ti DC II OC.

A 780 Ti is close enough to 670 sli that I'd say get it instead. SLI is fine, but I wouldn't go back to it. Too many slight annoyances for my liking. With recent news the wait for new cards is going to suck.
