If I understand correct from other guys LA is a little bit SoC plus new content plus parts from the old build which was not implemented in any Stalker game.

I've played only a little last night and a tear drop from my eyes. I was a huge fan of STALKER series and LA seems the pinnacle of series. Looks very nice and atmosphere is here. I can't wait to spend my first night in Zone. Again...

It's free and standalone. STALKER fans you must try it.

From the torrent description...

"The project first started out as a modification to add back the cut levels which all Stalker fans knew of. After a while, it became more than just a modification, it became our dream game, how we saw S.T.A.L.K.E.R."

Note however that many experienced install and/or launch problems with this torrent. One workaround stated DLing rar part 4 from ModDB and replacing the corresponding file in the torrent solved it.

I think I'll just DL the whole thing from ModDB. It's the first Google link that pops up and they seem to have far more comprehensive info on it, including nice screenshots and a video.

Note: This will play on a 32 bit OS, but 64 bit is recommended. On 32 bit you need to remove certain files. Check the info on the sites about it.

Downloading now, cant wait to get home to try it out. STALKER was my favorite game, the last two just lacked something the original had. Call of Pripyat was ok.

Too bad another stalker wont be made THQ is gone, GSC the studio who made stalker is gone and the people who worked on the game have either left the company or joined 1 of 2 studios that were created and formed by former employee's of GSC. Who knows who has the stalker IP? One of the studios could still make another stalker game but the chances of that are pretty small to none.

Had the first stalker game not been so delayed then maybe they would have stood a chance, the Xray Engine was pretty revolutionary back in the day but by the time stalker was released it was already old news.

Yea, I remember seeing it back in '02 or '03 and drooling. I thought the lighting and such looked great however character and gun models were certainly lacking in 07, especially after playing crysis (which still looks prett amazing considering it is 7 years old now!)

BTW until a patch is deployed take a look at this thread if you have problems with the game.
They already have some fixes there.

All assets not explicitly sold to buyers were acquired by Nordic Games GmbH.

GSC Game World was never owned by THQ nor any of its subsidiaries making the above moot. The founder of the company (Sergei Grigorovich) basically blew the place up giving little to no reason for doing so. bitComposer claimed to own the IP and GSC Game World shot back saying they owned it (that's still the most recent news article on their site). Even if a company is defunct, it can still own IP. GSC Game World could have secretly sold the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand to someone else but they easily may not have.

[Grigorovich] just gathered us all up in the presentation hall. He said, 'I have decided to stop Stalker 2 development. Goodbye.' ... It was a very short speech.

We went to Moscow to talk to people in Russia about potential funding, but ultimately we found problems because [Grigorovich] ... seemed to want to continue with the [Stalker] license [on his own].

Survarium was created by most of the people that left GSC Game World. A lot also went to A4 games which makes the Metro series.

The guy that created A4 Games (Andrew Prokhorov) left GSC Game World long before it laid off everyone because employees didn't share in the success of the studio.

In 2005, six years into the development of the first Stalker, GSC employed 140 people. Prokhorov says that in the parking lot there were only four cars. Three of them belonged to Grigorovich: a BMW X5, a Porshe Cayenne and a Ferarri F430 with plates that read "Stalker."

The fourth car was a second-hand beater owned by one of GSC's programmers. One hundred forty people worked for Grigorovich, with only one car among them. There is anger, disgust even, in Prokhorov's voice as he tells the story.

I've been playing it a bit, still in the Cordon, but so far I'm liking the additions and changes to the environment. With everything maxed out, no AA, I still see dips below 30FPS at 2560x1440, they added a ton of vegetation and effects. Also, the new zombies take so many shots, even if you just shoot them in the head. I'm not sure I want to see how the badder mutants are...

Looked at the patch notes, looks like they fixed what made my game crash before I stopped playing!

install it...;lost a few hrs to start it...had to run the exe in xp compatibility mode to start it

as a stalker series fan i had to try it and even is full with bugs &screen get corrupted sometimes... i'll try to finish it(if a major bug won't kill it ...)

I had issues with the game at first, it didnt have write permissions in the default directory in C:\Program Files(x86) so I moved it to another drive (where I really wanted it anyway) and no more issue after removing Read Only status from directory and its contents. Or edit permissions in default directory.

Next patch is around the corner. Sometime this week if I understand correct. This is the good news. The bad news is that we must start from scratch after patch.

Anyway here are some highlights from latest devs posts on forums.

Also if you like mods keep an eye on this page. Their latest Bug fixes give me a no-crash game until now (heading to Radar for that Brain Scorcher mission ATM).
And if you use mods you can also use good ol' JSGME (yeah I know that is a dead project but it still works) so you don't need to mess with original files anymore.

Most of my crashes are because it seems to hate GPU OC's. I'm not sure if it's just a quirk of the X-Ray engine or not.

Start all over? Ugh. But I don't want to! Guess I'll just suck it up and keep playing without.
