[Solved] Compatible RAM with Msi Z87 GD45 + i5 4670k

Hello,

About to buy that combo, but not sure what RAM would be compatible with it.
These are my options:

-KINGSTON PC HyperX Beast 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1866 PC3-14900 (KHX18C9T3K2/8X)
-KINGSTON PC HyperX Black Series - 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 (KHX16C9B1BK2/8)
-PATRIOT PC Viper 3 Series 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 CL9 (PV38G160C9K)
-G-SKILL PC ARES 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1600 - PC3-12800 - CL9 (F3-1600C9D-8GAB)


The problem is that none of them show up in the MSI Z87 GD45 compatible RAM list.
As for the CPU it says: Memory Types DDR3-1333/1600


Also I checked that Intel's Haswell CPU recommended maximum voltage is 1.5V+5% (1.575V),
but some of those RAMs are rated 1.65v

So don't really know what to pick.

I would go for the Beast 2x4GB with 1866 speed. Because at worst you can down clock the speed to 1600 to match the other three sets and hit optimal compatibility...you should have no issues hitting 1866 tho...I'm running my 2133's just fine without issue. I'd rather have more memory than faster memory, but then speed is second. IMHO.

I run 1.60-1.65v memory sticks with my build (see system specs) just fine. They will have a default 1333/1600 @ 1.50 compatibility anyways...then you can load the XMP settings in UEFI (read your MB's manual).

Should be a piece of cake with any of those sets of memory.

If you're getting a K chip also get this:

It was $25 when I bought it for my K chip last year...gives you one free RMA from OC-related damage that might otherwise void the standard 3-year warranty. Covers the same 3-year time-span the normal warranty does. Just in case you get into OC-ing in the next few years...it's a cheap and very good idea.

I prefer G.Skill memory, but I also like Kingston...had good luck with both vendors.

I think the voltage you found is a different spec maximum..the memory voltage will be applied by the motherboard, not the CPU. It's memory controller might be limited to 1.575v though...but the voltage to the memory DIMMS will be provided by a seperate and dedicated circuit on the mainboard.
