Hi. I was wondering if older guys here have used before the Samsung spinpoint HDD's? I know they are deadly silent but what about speed and reliability? Do they still make them or it's been bought by anothr OEM?

Samsung were one of the better hdd manufacturers out of the whole line up. Unfortunately samsung sold off that part of the business to seagate which is why you dont really see any samsung hard drives on sale anymore unless theyre second hand or a shop assistant found a box of them behind some shelf where nobody looks. Their F3's were very fast and reliable.

I ran an F3 before. I am actually currently selling a 500GB one right now. They aren't being made anymore.

Had 2 spinpoint F3's but sold one a while ago but my other is still going strong and must be getting on for 4 years old now.

If they were still around i would defo buy more.

Read and write speed is around 135/140Mbs and they are pretty silent even when copying lots of files to the drive.

I wish i never sold my other one now

I had a 80 gig F1 drive back in the old days, loved it, but then sold it with an old build I did. Solid performance, silent as hell, and had no issues. TBH, Seagate makes some good drives as well, but thats probably because Samsung was good at it.
