Hey guys I've been looking for a new monitor for a while and i'm pretty uneducated when it comes to displays, I recently hooked up a 40 inch LCD HDTV up with a HDMI cable and i noticed that the video image doesn't fit the edges of the display, like the icons are super big and the edges of windows are extending out of the view of the display, i'm saying this as a precaution for my self because i want to know if that i buy a 1080p monitor if it will be the same just as it is with the TV. If not could anyone give me some monitor suggestions, nothing over 220$ would be perfect i could go over budget a bit but not much.

Desired size? Intended use?

Sounds like your display resolution settings were sketchy when you connected the TV.

The Desired Size for a monitor would be around 21-27in, the intended use would be for videos and gaming. For the TV i went into Nvidia control and the res what set to 1920 x 1080 I know what resolution sizes are and such like that.

I am guessing you didnt try to go into your drivers control panel and change the screen scaling to fit correctly on the HDTV?

No, monitors will not have that issue.

I would but I am currently not on my main rig that has an Nvidia GPU.

And yes, itll say Generic PnP Monitor for any monitor you use.

You should be able to go into the Nvidia control panel (the drivers control panel, right click on desktop) and change resolution, and then you should also be able to choose some other settings to fit right on an HDTV. I do not know them at the top of my head. Only time I have ever dealt with the issue was on and AMD system and it was quite easy to get it to look right on an HDTV.

A nice 23-24" IPS display will put a smile on your face.

If you want to reach a bit deeper into your pocket the Dell U2412M put one on mine, and I assume Mx's too.

I found the extra vertical real estate (1200 v. 1080) to be worth the additional expense for my purposes.

Enjoy!
