I managed to get 74Hz on my monitor through Nvidia CP. Everything works fine on desktop. But my games are still locked at 60 fps when i enable vsync. How do i force them to run at this higher refresh rate?

Turn off VSync?
Also check ingame video settings, some games have FPS limiters built in.

Well i don't need to overclok my monitor if all i want is a higher frame rate than 60fps in games,do i now? The entire point of overcloking my monitors refresh rate is so i can get Higher frame rates without screen tearing. I was expecting my games to be locked at 74fps with vsync on. but they all still run at max 60fps.

If you want to see those framerates, then yeah you need to OC it. Have you checked ingame settings for frame limiters?

if u want the actually refresh rate of ur monitor download and install Powerstrip, i did that and tried it on my Yamakasi Catleap monitor that is set to run 120hz and it runs about 119,992hz i doubt it will be anymore better running at 2560x1440 pixel.

I don't need that at all. Nvidia control panel supports monitor OC. My question is how do i enable this new refresh rate in my games?

As RCoon said, turn off v-sync? That will take away the 60fps wall.

Or you could use the FPS limiter tool in MSI Afterburner through the rivatuner statistics server sub-program and set frame rate limit to your desired rate.

I already tried that. It gives me screen tearing.

OK let me try to explain this again. My monitors native resolution is 1680x1050. And its default refresh rate is 60hz. So when i turn on vsync in game or nvidia control panel,every game will be locked at 60fps. because that is my monitors refresh rate. Now i have overcloked my monitors refresh rate to 74hz. And when i turn on vsync in game or nvidia control panel,i expect my games to be locked at 74Hz. Without screen tearing. Because that is the new refresh rate of my monitor.

You get tearing with using the fps limiter @ 74fps with vsync off? That sucks man it should work fine. It works great on a friend's 120hz screen with a 120fps limit.

That video is little out of date, the fps limiter is in the main screen of rivatuner.

I managed to raise the refresh rate a bit higher. And now it's at 77Hz @ 1680 x 1050. I tried Titanfall and the game now runs at 77fps with vsync activated @ 1680 x 1050. So it seems that all the other games i tried simply don't support higher refresh rates than 60 when vsync is activated. I know Titanfall got a patch which gives it support for up to 144Hz refresh rate.

Yeah I think that is the issue. You need to be sure the games support higher refreshes to make your OC work right.

Many games have built in limiter , anything using unreal engine will have that like UT3, BL2 for example .You can generally modify the config files to raise it that use Unreal engine .

How do i remove fps limit from Unreal engine 3 based games?

Edit. Ok got it now. Playing Mass effect 3 at 2480 x 1550 and locked at 77fps. Because my monitors refresh rate is now 77Hz

for all this monitor editing stuff i like CRU.
you can tell that to edit a bunch of stuff that your monitor tells your gpu.
so say you wanted to tell it your monitors native resolution was 1920x1080 at 75 hrz you can.. But probably shouldnt.
but you can usually force 1680x1050 to a default of 1920x1080@30 (1080i) where it would not work at 1080p although 1080i kind of sux.
regardless of that the app is pretty usefull if your monitor isnt telling the gpu the corect details so its default to 1024x768 or something stupid when it should be 1080p
just make sure you get the refresh rates within tolerances.

You have to look in the xxxengine.ini file of the game, there should be one in your User-name saved "my game" folder .

look for these lines in a Unreal title engine

bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62
change the maxsmoothedframerate to whatever you like
