or

2500+ 1.83gigs fsb333mhz

2500+ OC better on boards that support it and a higher FSB speed raises performance as a whole.

He did say in his first post that if boards support OC the 2500+ is the way to go. Otherwise it's probably a tossup to what has the most of the features you want at the price you want. How did you get the 1.83GB vs 2.0GB? One have onboard GPU and the other doesn't? (which how is it 1.83??? onboard GPU? If so is that not the same for both?)

Its same board but have the 2 cpu here. Thèse are specs of cpu not memory.

the higher MHz bus will aid RAM bandwidth. back in those days, a lot of boards let you OC - if the board supported 400MHz FSB chips, bam - raise it to 400 (lower the multi to keep it stable, if needed)

why not just test them both out, see if they OC, and decide then?

They dont overclock I already told it. The board does not have any overclocking function in the bios. So it's STOCK and need to choosebased on STOCK specs. Thx

Do you know the cores (e.g. Barton, Venice, San Diego, etc.) on them? Even without it, the 2500+ has a higher FSB which usually translates to new core. I'd probably go with the 2500+.

Either one is fine for surfing the net. The 2500 is a better choice overall I think but for surfing the net/ email etc I don't think it really matters.

You get a +1 for building a rig to give to a less fortunate family. You're good people for that.

Give him the 2400+ 2gigs fsb266mhz. I presume you will also include a AGP gpu? For internet, Facebook and less demanding games that will be enough. Just out of curiosity what operating system will you install on the machine?

Yes i included an Agp fx5200.

As i said thé 2500 have more core speed but less MHz overall.

its not what you;'re thinking - if the board supports a 333Mhz FSB and you put a 266MHz FSB CPU in, you can trick the board into running 333 and overclock it, even when the board doesnt support it. how varied, but it was VERY common with the barton CPU's (from 333 to 400)

lower MHZ doesnt matter, its a newer design. faster FSB, faster chip.

Go with the 2500+. Its a newer core, runs cooler and only 70 mhz slower but has a higher throughput. Either will work thought as there isn't a night and day difference between the 2.

Barton is WAY better than Thoroughbred. Go Barton. I can't remember what they changed but Thoroughbreds refused to stay cool and always run hot.

2500. MHz speed difference will be un-noticeable. Faster bus speed will feel snappier.

Yeah i understand about the.auto overclock but the board really put the 266mhz at this speed so i go with the Barton.

its not what you;'re thinking - if the board supports a 333Mhz FSB and you put a 266MHz FSB CPU in, you can trick the board into running 333 and overclock it, even when the board doesnt support it. how varied, but it was VERY common with the barton CPU's (from 333 to 400)

The Barton started to freak out then shut down computer a couple of times. But right at the beginning it was detected as a 1900+ 1.47gigs. I switched back to the 2400+.
