So as it says in the title, I moved the 16gb pagefile that had nearly maxed the capacity of my 120gb SSD to a mechanical HDD, and everything was fine for a while (up until this morning), but then I turned on the PC today and windows aero animations were incredibly slow and choppy, so much so that I checked the registry setting to see if it had somehow been changed, and it hadn't, following that I checked the CPU usage and it was at ~5% on one thread, and nothing else performance-wise out of the ordinary. Everything else including games operate fine, but I opened word and aside from the icon being absent, everything about it was operating at 1/5 speed and menus were laggy to open and even selecting text was slow.

Does anyone have any clue what is causing this or how to fix it?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

It was set that way by default as I have 16gb of RAM, and I never thought to change it when I first bought the PC, and figured I'd just relocate it which I was told was fine.

u don't need a pagefile, when u got 16gb of memory, it's not many ppl that runs out of memory having 16gb.

i lowered it bcs some Microsoft programs like the Office pack can crash without a pagefile.

Unfortunately Windows needs a local pagefile regardless of how much RAM you have to operate properly, I would suggest moving other less important files from your SSD to a different drive like documents, pictures and others.

Besides, you never really want to operate any SSD at close to over 90% capacity, as you greatly reduce their performance by doing so, especially in older SSD drives, try relocating every directory found mind the Users folder to another drive by going to each directory properties and manually changing their location.

Also, try uninstalling unnecessary programs from your C: drive.

Good luck

Dont move your page file. And dont go without one. Just make is smaller. If you have 16 Gb ram then make it 1 Gb

Also with any SSD make sure you have some unalocated space. At least 5% for trash cleanup

Move your pagefile back to your ssd, custom set the upper and lower limits to both read 4096MB, job done.

Having no pagefile is some thing i have been doing for a long time now without issue ( although i mainly play games only ), turning it off until this space issue is solved should not do any harm at all.

Besides uninstalling apps you could try a disk cleanup too and IF you know enough about windows try getting a app called treesize as it will show you what folder\file is taking all the space.

Let windows handle it, plus a hdd needs defragging.

I set my page file to 2gb, with 16gb ram I rarely go over 7gb usage, 7.35gb is the highest I've seen and thats when I'm playing Aion, I tried leaving it disabled but then using the Shift+F12 (to hide other players during sieges) doesnt work at all, it looks like the pagefile is needed for that, so I ended setting it to 2gb.
