AM2 cpu upgrade does it worth it?

I have a 4600+ am2 cpu and would like to extend the life of my current computer (see system specs) I already have all in double (hdd, gpu, ddr2, psu) but I would like to know if it worth it to pay 35$ to upgrade to a 6000+ cpu ?

Absolutely not...
For $90 which is a measly $55 more you can find a board, memory and cpu which will quadruple your systems power...and yes its worth the time that may be needed to acquire the other funds.
I know I can get a AMD 4130, and a cheap AM3+ board and 4Gb of DDR3 1866 for $110...

I think that there is a tpu member closer than myself who can help with the AM2 upgrade.....

I would look for a I3 setup. You can pickup pieces at a time. Post a WTB thread and look for like a p67 board and I3-2100 then 8GB of DDR3. Should get it reasonably cheap. Once you have that then sell your AM2 stuff to recoup that moneyz

Then why not just drop in a second hand Athlon 6400+ X2 and 4890. I'm sure you can find that for $100 total. More than enough for BF2.

And yes $35 for a 6400+ X2 is worth it. But for BF2 the major issue is the 8600GT

It's a 6000+ he's talking about. CPU support is a bit on the slim side tbh if the motherboard in the OP's specs is the motherboard in question.

That 4890 will instantly kill that Raidmax 380w PSU.

If all you want to play is BF2, yes X2 6000 will be a good upgrade, make sure you get the 2 x 1MB version, they are good clockers.

Does your board support Overclocking? If so you can OC that 4600 for bit more speed gain!

What about a used 5770 or 4790, considerably faster than the 8600GT, but will his PSU hold up? What can he get for $65 to make it a cheap $100 upgrade?

I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping more than $100 on this old rig.

7750 would be best bet (if it can be found cheap). My son's system runs with a 6670 and it plays COD4 @ 1650 resolution. 6670 can be got for real cheap now a days.

5770 is a great card really. don't think the 4600+ could really utilize anything better fully.
but maybe a 6570 would be better suited to the system.. bit slower should still be able to play most games if only at low res
i know i had a 6570 and could play the new thief game at low/medium setting 1024x768 on a low power core 2 duo system..
its not great but its better.
the 5770 would be about 100% better than his current card and the 6570 would be about 50% better.
difference is about 50w and 12 amps less needed for the 6570 compared to the 5770,
a 9600gt would be about 40% better than the 8600 with roughly the same power requirements as his 8600..

those would be my 3 short listed cards for the 4600+ whilst trying to keep the power draw lower. (the 5770 may be a bit to power hungry)
the 6570 shouldn't need a 6pin pci-e power connection either and is a low profile card but the back plate may not be depending on the seller.. the 5770 would need a 6 pin connector and is a full sized card.
Some 9600gt's have a 6pin connectors others don't, so if that's a issue its best to look out for it.

But i would try to save and upgrade in 1 big hit.
