Looking for a new mouse here, and have a few criteria for it. I'd like to have 4 side hotkeys and I want it to be comfortable (I have bigger hands and like to rest it on the mouse if I can, but most mice I can't). The most comfortable mouse I ever owned to date was the original Logitech MX Revolution. I've owned a RAT 7 and MMO7 (both were ok, but not as good as the MX), and currently have a Corsair M90.

In my mind I narrowed it down to tow options (but I'm hoping there is more). First is the Func MS-3 Rev 2.

And 2nd option the Logitech G700S.

I've personally tried the G700s for comfort and it felt good. But my pinky and ring finger tips still touched the mouse pad. Tried out a Raze mouse with a support for the ring finger, but not the pinky and it felt a bit better on that side, but no thumb cradle on that overall made it slightly less comfortable.

So I'm sitting between a rock and a hard spot here. The G700s feels comfortable and has the hotkeys I'm looking for. While the Func I'm pretty sure will be quite a bit better, but is a hotkey short on what I want. So I'm seeing if there's a mouse I'm missing out there. I'm hoping there's something with a nice thumb cradle, a ring finger and pinky rest/grove, and 4 thumb hotkeys. Please tell me I'm missing something, sounds like the perfect mouse I can't imagine why it wouldn't be made :p

Anything wrong with the M90?

Anyhow I haven't used the Func MS-3, the original sold out cheap very often here in Sweden but people didn't seemed to like it so I never bought one. Not all that many buttons at least.

The G500 I feel have nice buttons, the G700s I think he three extra buttons along the left mouse button is pretty uncomfortable but mostly I think the mouse is pretty heavy and somewhat laggy.

The G602 instead is lower speced but on my not very fancy setup it moves with less lag and it may be somewhat lighter and you can also remove one of the batteries. It also have a longer battery life and cost less. The disadvantages? Lower spec numbers and fewer buttons.

There's a new G502 now which I haven't tried but which is enjoyed by many. That's likely a good choice. It's wired though but so is the MS-3.

In the Razer camp the one I felt was comfortable was the one (Ouroboros) which look kinda like the RAT and such but I wouldn't want to buy one from them.

Among the Roccats I prefer the Savu for ergonomics but it feels and is cheap. They have a new one called Tyon which maybe could be somewhat similar to G700s, G602 and G502? May be an alternative.
Steelseries just released an ergonomic mice too called Rival. The Steelseries products are so expensive though. Weirdly I think their Sensei feels pretty nice in my hands even though I really have the impression I would prefer an ergonomic mouse.

So yeah. I'd probably pick G602 or G502 whatever you want wireless or not and possibly depending on how they feel because I haven't felt the G502 yet.

I took a Logitech G9x with me but I probably shouldn't, the price was 1/3 of the G502 and I know it's done for and a popular mouse but I kinda feel I probably should sell it (not "used", just tested with a G602, didn't knew about the G502 then) and pay the extra for the G502 just to not have to think about it :)

I've heard ups and downs with the original MS-3, sounds like the newer one is better, but by how much I don't know. I just think it looks like it would fit my grip style completely and be the most comfortable of whats out there for me. But sadly it's a button short of what I want as well. I don't mind heavy mice, so the G700s weight didn't really bother me and the grip was comfortable over all, but the ring finger and pinky still don't have a place to sit, just feels slightly awkward.

I tried out both the G502 and the G602 as well. The 502 felt ok, but was even farther awak from the ergonomics I would like and also lacked 2 hotkeys (completely throwing it out of the equation). And the 602 felt very similar to the 700. But the 700 I can easily put my thumb on the top or bottom set of hotkeys and rock my thumb forward to hit the front and back to hit the back. Where as the 602 my thumb sat awkwardly between the front and middle button, and felt like in order to use the hotkeys effectively I would have to lift my thumb off the mouse and hit the keys with the end of my thumb, which I didn't feel was good for response times in games (just not as natural as being able to rock the thumb without lifting it to hit all keys).

I seen the Ouroboro's, didn't get to try it, but it's too pricey in my opinion and didn't look to be all that ergonomic (at least not what I'm searching for). The Naga felt good with it's ring finger rest, but pinky still dragged and I hate the hotkey pad on the Naga's so thats out as well. As far as Roccat's the Savu doesn't offer the hotkeys or ergonomics that look tempting. The Tyon on the other had looks tempting, but it looks to be an average sized mouse that would leave the ring and pinky finger dragging. And same for most Steelseries as well.

The M90 is a decent mouse, but mine came with the scroll wheel bug, so it has to be RMA'd to be fixed and I need a mouse during that time. But it also happens that the M90 just doesn't provide the ergonomics I want. It had hotkeys galore, and it's not uncomfortable, but something like the G700s is more comfortable (which is why it temps me, but it just lacks the finger rests that I really really want).

I liked the G500 and wore it out. replaced it with the G500s. Do not like it. The click is week so I'm watching this thread. Wondering if the G700s click is like the G500s

I'm inexperienced with lots of buttons and in stores I've tried to figure out which let me push with the thumb but as you say I figured out they are likely for rocking the thumb and as such I have less knowledge for how my old favourites would fit since that explain why the side buttons sit "further back."

I too may have preferred the side buttons of the G700s. Don't really care much for the weight and "sand paper" plastic.

Good for you that you had tried a bunch at least :), likely increases chances that you'll be lucky with whatever you get :) Good luck with your pick and feel free to follow up with what it become :)

Mionix Naos is a beast. I use to swear by Sidewinder mice but they don't make them anymore so moved to the NAOS. It took me ages to find a mouse I liked with proper support for my ring and pinky fingers. It's very similar in design to the MS-3 actually only that it has concave rather than convex mouse buttons.

I've got the cheapest one being the 3200 (optical) as I don't need high DPI. There are 5000, 7000 and 8200 versions too all of which are laser sensors.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i have a G602 for quite a while now ... i would take that one over a G700/700S anytime ... less button? at last they are all placed in normally reachable place (the G700 button under the wheel or the 3rd under the index are ... quite acrobatically reachable) battery life ofc ... winner (tho the 700 is rechargeable) but my G602 did hold 2 month with the 2 AA bundled (i use it in a mix of perf/endu mode but always on 2500dpi, i never needed more than 2600 on my previous G600 but i have only a 32" 1080p screen) atm i use 2 energizer Lithium (they also are lighter than normal/rechargeable battery) and it's already been more than 2 month and a half. (also the texture of the mouse is quite comfy ... and it's the 1st mouse i have who stay clean as the 1st day after some time of use

awww i don't have the logitech gaming software on that rig .... but i wanted to show the 5/5 bar left on battery after 2month xD

now the G502 Proteus Core is totally awesome i would take one if i needed a corded mouse, since the shape of it is same as the G602 and for me it was the best out of all the mices i had.

also between Func and Mionix, i would say Mionix ... (i love the Naos)

I have had my eye on the Naos as well since anyone talking about the MS-3 also mentions that. but problem there is even worse than the MS-3. It only has 2 thumb hotkeys and I already felt the MS-3 was 1 short (since I want 4). Otherwise that would be in the running for sure (unless I'm missing a model that has more hotkeys).

I'm not too worried about reaching the profile buttons on the left side of the index finger easily. Those aren't things I need to switch on the fly in the heat of a game. So them being harder to access doesn't bother me, I'd rather have them out of the way so I don't accidentally hit them. To me the G602 and 600 just don't have easily usable buttons. My grip just doesn't line up on them correctly to use it. It's a pretty comfortable mouse, but I could never use that hotkey setup effectively.

As said, 602 just doesn't have right hotkey placement for my hand, which rules it out. I think I'm really stuck between the 700s and the MS-3. Question is weather to go for more comfort and a missing hotkey (MS-3) or That extra hotkey and a bit less comfort.

what the... the 602 have almost the same placement as the 700 minus the 2 under the scrollwheel

the only difference in the thumbgrid and index is you have 2 instead of 3 under the index and 6 instead of 4 under the thumbs ... sou you say the right hotkey placement for you is only determined by the 2 under the scrollwheel ? rather curious o_O

basically the 602 has 1 button more than the 700 in the same space frame (index thumb) i used both mouse and the 602 offer more possibility having that pattern instead of the +1 and 1 under the wheel since they are less practical to reach ... (well in game ... for office use they might be reachable ... ) unless you claw it and then even a 700 doesn't have a good shape for it : 602/502/700/700s = palm grip and you look at a Func MS-3 who is a pure palm grip and has way less possibility than a 602/700/700s i don't get it ... really :D whether (weather???) you go for a 700 or a MS-3 you can't technically go wrong.

but i still don't get why the 700 feel so different for you as they felt same for me xD and i am a palm type (ok i had a 600 maybe that help ... )

btw i custom profile my index buttons on my 602 so they are not useless DPI switch (useless because i always use my mouse at 2600dpi ) so i need reachable and practical layout to be of any use for me :)

I have the original MS3 from FUNC and its the most comfortable mouse I have used palm grip is actually comfortable and usable on this one yet I can still use a claw / palm, hybrid grip.

Software is useful but not bloated and unlike my Element Black doesnt cut in or out.

I am pretty hard on mice and so far the FUNC has held up damn well to the point Ill probably buy an R2 as a backup for when this one dies its been that good.

what the... the 602 have almost the same placement as the 700 minus the 2 under the scrollwheel

the only difference in the thumbgrid and index is you have 2 instead of 3 under the index and 6 instead of 4 under the thumbs ... sou you say the right hotkey placement for you is only determined by the 2 under the scrollwheel ? rather curious o_O

basically the 602 has 1 button more than the 700 in the same space frame (index thumb) i used both mouse and the 602 offer more possibility having that pattern instead of the +1 and 1 under the wheel since they are less practical to reach ...

Almost isn't the same. Like I said earlier, when holding the g700s I can slide my thumb up to top or bottom row of thumb keys and rock it easily back and forth to actuate front and back hotkeys. The keys on the 602 maybe similar, but combined with how much they stick out, I can't just rock my thumb on them to activate them. I must actually move my thumb and hit each one individually to get them, which isn't nearly as natural of a feeling. This might not be the same for others, but just how it is with me and the way I held it. As far as having hotkeys beyond 4, that doesn't really matter to me, like I said I currently have a Corsair M90 (and had an MMO7 before this with 12 side hotkeys), it has 9 hotkeys on the side alone (all pretty easily usable, I would just like 4, anymore is bonus, but not a requirement and would rather have something comfortable). As far as hotkeys under the wheel, I won't be using them anyways, so those don't matter to me, any mouse those always feel unnatural.

You hit the nail on the head about palm grip. And that explains exactly why I want it, it is the most ergonomic of the bunch, and it's why I'm torn between it and the 700s. Func will be more comfortable and 700s will be more functional (1 more hotkey). I was just hoping there was something out there I was missing that was like the MS-3 Rev 2 with more keys, but sadly it doesn't seem to exist (you'd think that ring finger and pinky rest design would have more out there). Also not sure if you said you tried out the 600 and not the 700. If so, yeah completely different. The 700 and the 602 felt almost the same to me in comfort, if the 602's buttons were made to be shorter so they could pack them closer together allowing for rocking to actuate them then I would get it for sure (the more hotkeys the better, but comforts coming first here, I want something I enjoy holding, not something I'm just dealing with for more keys).

Well Crazy, I think you just sold me on it then, despite it being down a hotkey I'd want.

**EDIT**
Just bought the Func, so we'll see how it is.

Just think the Func you got is about $20 cheaper than when I got mine and is better designed.

Also while not for everyone I actually like the divider for the pinky and ring finger it gives those two fingers the ability to actually grab on to the mouse with a smooth surface like on the Mionix mice you lose some of that grip that the Func offers.

Agreed. When I had to move back to my ancient Sidewinder X5 the side button placement was a couple of millimetres further forward than on the X8 and they weren't on a shared rocker plate and also stuck out a millimetre or two more than on the X8. Although this may seem better as both can be pushed at the same time, the resistance was totally different, especially as I couldn't just roll my thumb up or down to press the button. I still miss this on my NAOS. :'( first world problems...

Let us know how you find the func.

Yeah, the price is nice on the Func. And I'm looking forward to that divider. Not only will it allow a wide grip with comfort, it should allow me to pick up the mouse easier than mouse mice that wide.

I own the Corsair M60 (M65 is out now) And it's by far my favorite mouse.

Nothing fancy, just a basic gaming mouse with weights and on-the-fly changeable DPS. And it has some blue glow to it.

i have a G602 for quite a while now ... i would take that one over a G700/700S anytime ... less button? at last they are all placed in normally reachable place (the G700 button under the wheel or the 3rd under the index are ... quite acrobatically reachable) battery life ofc ... winner (tho the 700 is rechargeable) but my G602 did hold 2 month with the 2 AA bundled (i use it in a mix of perf/endu mode but always on 2500dpi, i never needed more than 2600 on my previous G600 but i have only a 32" 1080p screen) atm i use 2 energizer Lithium (they also are lighter than normal/rechargeable battery) and it's already been more than 2 month and a half.

At least here in Sweden the Mionix is really expensive / priced as a premium mouse where the idea of the Func may have been so too but it was priced low with the first revision because people didn't liked it.

I think price matter too. If the MS-3 was half the price of the Naos and seemed similar it of course seemed more attractive than at the same price (then again maybe it cost the same now but also the quality may be better now too so .. Whatever.)

And I prefer to hold my finger tips on the buttons rather than the whole hand on the mouse so I guess we may have differences there =P

replaceable AA batteries is amazing in a cordless mouse, i've slapped a higher capacity one in and get 3 solid days of gaming per charge (and it charges in an hour, from a standard USB cable - no need to stop gaming, no need for silly docks or custom battery packs)
