Hello everyone! In next 60 days i have to buy new workstation. PC will be used mainly as workstation (Level Artist/Designer, Environment Artist and only some FX [mainly fire and explosions]). Crytek has announced MANTLE support for CRYENGINE - so AMD card is must (anyway I'm stickin with AMD gpus [I'm not fanboy - i had gtx 460 and mobile quadro as well... so i'm more or less experienced with that]).

CPU - AMX FX 9590 (i can get it for just only 230$ in usd) // CryEngine loves AMD CPU's.
MOBO - Asus 990FX Sabertooth R2.0 (5 years warranty, good and stable motherboard)
RAM - 32gb (4x8gb) Corsair Dominator Platinium 2133Mhz 9 or 10 Cl
PSU: Corsair RM 1000w
CASE: Corsair Cabride Air 540 (i love cubes - it's my weakness...)
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 256gb + WD Caviar Black 1tb

GPU: Sapphire Tri-X (or Vapor-X) R9 290 or I'm going to wait for "R9 295" with HBM memory.
Display: Dell U2713HM 27' 1440p

SSD for OS and CryEngine stuff (it should be enough) and some HDD space for textures/models ~~ and maybe some games.
Cooling? I'm planning custom water loop (3x120mm RAD) only for CPU. And if i will hit a golden chip - of course i will try to overclock it to 5.4GHz ~~.

What do you think about it? Is it crazy or good idea? Better option might be only i7 4930k but it's more than x2 expensive + motherboards are x2 more expensive... And i probably won't see big difference. And i understand that FX cpu gets "raped" by Intel in most games but... for gaming i have mainly PS3.

Yeah sounds good for an Amd build mate I can't see any issues as for intels being that much better , , well they are but Fx's still are very capable in recently produced games that effectively multi thread, im not complaining anyway its all good if it does what you want but many would argue an I5 is what you need never mind an I7.

i5 is what i need? I'm sure it's not :D
CryEngine uses easily 8 cores (100%), 4 core's is way to much compute power to hold all psychics at the same time. FX 9590 hold at the same 100% level with 4770k (it only draws more power, but my i5 750 takes also 220w with my voltage...). And i can take FX 9590 for 3/5 price of i7 in my country. Every program i use uses at least 8 cores. 3DSMax loves AMD Modular CPU's too.

Same with ram. Out of RAM in CryEngine means -> Application Crash (many players has meet this problem in Crysis 3 game I'm 100% sure). Thats the most annoying part. Otherwise i would stick to 16gb...

Developing open territory need aloot of ram and more CPU power. It's not PC for gaming, it's PC for developing games. For an example -> look at Star Citizen Developers, they got Intel Octa Cores (and some of them got 2 x Octa Core Xeons) with nVidia GTX Titans. I'm not rich so... I have to stick with AMD at the moment -> best bang for the bucks.

A lot of the devs for Star Citizen are using 4670 and 4770K's. CryEngine seems to prefer Intel over AMD.. and it makes sense since the IPC of Intel CPU's is better. Everything else with your build looks great.

I use CryEngine often myself and it is much more functional on my Intel rig compared to my AMD rig (CPU wise)... Though, with AMD I'm only on a 6800K.

I would say that 1000W PSU is a bit over the top, unless you plan on SLI-ing. But good choice on PSU manufacturer - some people cheap out on it, and it can take the system with it when it breaks. I like the Air 540 too - good layout for better thermal performance. I can't see any issues with the build. An i7 4770K technically has better single performance, but you need the multi-core performance, where the AMD FX 9590 performs very similarly, and in your case is also cheaper.

Cool! :)
I would think about 4790k and LC (with Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1) but... it's almost x2 expensive and mobo is 1/3 more expensive too. So... I'm sure FX 9590 will hold on (my friend has 8320 on stock and it generates about x3 more FPS than my i5 750 on 4GHz and 9590 with 5.4GHz would be a loot more powerful).

Thanks to 9590 and 990FX Sabertooth Price i can spend more money on GPU/or RAM. 16gb is not enough at the moment and I'm suffering from out-of-memory crashes... And i always loved modding and other stuff. :D
In next 2 years I'm planning to buy new AMD FX CPU or Intel (2011 LGA segment).

Yeah but 750w, 850w are just 10$ cheaper than 1000W so... And in next year i can always pick-up second GPU for 1/3 price. And PSU will be less tortured (and colder).

Where are you shopping? I'm seeing about a ten dollar difference between the 9590 and 4790K.

Poland or Germany. FX 9590 i can get for just 790pln (790/3,03=260$ and i7 4770k costs about 1250pln (1250/3,03=412$).

Well that's pretty lousy. I suppose if you need to save the money, the 9590 is the way to go, over there.

You're comparing an old o5 do a decently-newish FX. That's an unfair fight.

Try a 8320 vs 3570k. That's a lot more fair.

Oh yeah, the Intel Tax. I had to buy my 3770K on this forum to get around it.

I think you have a really solid setup. I would stick with the 1k psu as well for only an extra 10 bucks. Plus, that 9590 will really draw some power at 5.4ghz. Have you thought about getting a workstation graphics card?

It was from my experience. But heavy OC'ed i5 750 can make 7000-7500 in 3DMark11 (stock 4400?). It's best CPU i ever had (for normal use and gaming it's more than enough imho but it draws too 200w+ with 1.45v voltage). But from test i've seen even FX 8320 is about 5% slower than i7 4770k in CE and 3DS, quad core i5 looses about 30-40%. But for gaming not development - yes, it would be best choice.

Yes i was thinking about Quadro K4000 and Titan but:
1) Quadro will give me a loot less performance in SDK (most important) but boost in 3DS
2) Titan is good for everything but almost x2,6 more expensive. Thats the worst point.
FirePro is not currently available in my region (i was looking for it but 0 hits).
