Any idea why? Is a fix or special build available?
More info - this is not my main system, but 2nd now, and has these system specs:
Mobo: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z68 Pro3/
(latest Beta BIOS installed, for proper Windows 8/8.1 support)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHZ, Kingston (2 sticks of 4 GB each).
CPU: Intel Core i5 3470.
Video card: Gigabyte AMD/ATI Radeon HD4870 (1 GB GDDR5 videoRAM).
PSU: SEASONIC SS-620GB/620W/APF
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, w/all updates installed.
GPU-Z version: 0.7.8.
Video card drivers - latest AMD Radeon Legacy drivers (12.?? or was it 13.xx?), CCC not working (shows an error) - seems CCC and Legacy Radeon drivers do not like Windows 8.1 much - however all games and 3D programs work fine.
Exact programs running I had and what happened that caused the lockup:
1) Running VMware Workstation 10.x, with a Windows 7 32-bit Guest OS active.
2) WinAMP running (on host OS) with some music playing.
3) Nothing much else running - Dropbox, Google Hangouts.
4) Tried to run GPU-Z.
RESULT: GPU-Z splash screen showed, then system locked up - the music stopped and turned into a repeating hum sound, and the image on the screen remained the same - Windows desktop + WinAMP in background, GPU-Z splash screen in foreground. Had to hard reset.
Thanks in advance for any comments or help!
