Hi,

I have a USB headset, but I want to use it for things such as my phone or my PS Vita, but as far as I'm aware, then any normal 'Female USB to 3.5mm jack' won't work because the signals are different (analogue and digital). Do any of you know of a device that would make this conversion work?

Regards,
Jared.

You'd literally need an analog to digital converter and...that's just silly. Best just getting a different headset.

They don't work like that. There's a DAC inside the headphones somewhere that converts the USB data to analog to drive the woofers. If you send that DAC an analog signal, nothing good will come of it. The only way that may work is if the DAC is in an inline volume/mic mute dongle where it is digital going into that and analog to the mic/headphones. If that gamble is wrong, you still destroyed a perfectly good headset.

Yeah, as Ford said you can't just solder up an adapter.

They sell these kinds of connectors: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H28XZWI/?tag=tec06d-20

Get one of them, though you may need a 2.5 mm rather than 3.5 mm jack depending upon your hardware.

I bought something similar to this: http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B00JO9H45W/?tag=tec053-21
which is basically like the one you said, but it didn't work :(

Plugged the headset into the USB socket, plugged it into the phone and there was no sound coming out.
The phone recognises that something is plugged in because the volume control goes to headphone mode on the phone, but no sound comes out of the headset.

Those are both for "U-Disk" devices which, well, I can't find any credible documentation online about what that actually is. Assuming such a device where those adapters work, it likely appears like a USB flash stick but the USB pin-out supports USB for transferring files on to the drive and 3.5mm stereo out via adapter. This is highly proprietary stuff and if it didn't come with one of those adapters, those adapters will never work.

As I said, what you're looking for doesn't exist because converting from digital (computer), to analog (3.5mm), to digital (USB), to analog (woofers) is a bad idea. USB headsets are generally garbage so do yourself a favor and get a 3.5mm headset. If you insist on USB, you can get really good USB DACs (or really not-so-good cheap ones) to drive a 3.5mm headset.
