You won't 'experience it' without looking at afterburner or another application that logs... but make no mistake about it, that card throttles (boost bins) starting at 85C.

So, set your curve so that your card doesn't hit 85C and you will get its full potential.

I agree a 290X is the best choice of the two and one of the best choices for a video card right now in the area of price to performance and overall performance.

If you are looking for a best priced one, its going to depend on the region or where you buy, but let me show you a few god priced ones:

Those are from newegg (The diamond has the HIS cooler on it which gets good reviews), if you are able to buy from newegg definitly get the gigabyte windforce cooler though.

XFX DD R9 290X $510

Diamond R9 290X $482

VisionTek R9 290X $446

If you want more performance, why not just get another 4GB 770? Cheaper upgrade, and will beat any of your other options.

Never had it at 90 degress max 87-88 degrees

That seems to hot to me, keep it under 85. Better yet keep it under 80.

As I said before, that card will throttle (boost bins) at 85C. He needs to (should be) keeping that to under 85C otherwise, it will drop boost bins to keep that temperature in check (assuming he doesn't jack up the power limit).

To keep my gtx 770 4gb (prefer the same gpu's in sli) and buy a used gigabyte windforce gtx 770 oc 4gb i have to pay minimum 50% more then if i sell my card and buy a new gtx 780 or R9 290X

(same price 585-600$ or 430-440€ for a new card, 365$ or 268€ i would have gotten for my card, but unfortunately i think he regret it and don't want to buy my card, almost 9 hours ago he sent me an email that he will write back to my when he got home 1 hour later,havn't heard from him).

Changed my fan profile and i was amazed at 40% it was barely noticeable

Imo 3gb is enough for next-gen in 2015, check watchdogs 6gb 780gtx review and you will see 780Ti still wins @ UHD 4K because it has more raw gpu power - ultra textures.

The GTX 780 6 GB slightly beats the GTX 780Ti at 4k.

this exactly. The 6gb on a 780 doesn't really help in single gpu configurations, but it could in multi gpu

Notwithstanding my total ignorance of GPU pricing in Denmark, I concur with Durvelle.

Stateside, the premium attached to the 290X vs. the 290 is disproportionate to the additional performance, in my opinion.

Btw, I remember reading that ASUS's DCUII is less than optimal on the R9's because they reused the unaltered design originally engineered for Nvidia cards.

I'd probably go with a Sapphire iteration.

If I could go back and redo it, I would have got a 290x also. I followed tom's hardware guide and I have a good build, but the 780 was the p4p card to beat at the time. I think 290x had sky rocketed when I was shopping also. At the same time I wouldn't redo it, becuase the 290x wasn;t worth the 7 or 8 or 900 dollars it was going for. Got my card for $500 flat and OCed properly, could probably beat the 290x.

The difference betwen 290 and 290x is not that big. Also the tri-x version is very quiet. Even on load playing games you cannot really hear it.

Personally, I love low noise. Therefore the only card I would consider is the MSI Gaming 780. I recently got a reference design 780 though, but that was free so I don't care

However, if you don't care about high(er) noise I'd get the 290X for price / performance reasons.

If i had that much cash, i would get a SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290 4GB GDDR5 OC, save some more, and get another one later.

If choosing AMD Sapphire, then Vapor-X model 290X. It has even cooler VRM and overall avg temp.
Imo no1 pick from all custom AMD gpus on the market atm.

Pretty nice choice, I'd personally try and find a Sapphire card fitted with a tri x cooler.
