Best Single 6/8pin GPU?

I know of the MSI Gaming ITX 760 and R9 270X that just use a single 6/8pin, and I'm aware of most of the GTX 750 Ti line, but is there anything that I am missing?

I don't know if it has the connectors but my overclocked 4670k and 770 only drew 480w when under fur mark and IBT. If you kept them stock or a little undervolted/underclocked it should stay well within 300w during gaming. Otherwise the 760 is best.

You don't know what your own hardware has in terms of power connection requirements? Let me answer that for you. Most 770s have a 8pin and 6 pin. Some like the Gigabyte versions have 2 8 pins. G8R is looking for a card with a single power connection.

Looking to add a GPU to a small gaming rig that is currently utilizing a CX430. Hence I don't have a lot of headroom, but would still like to know if there are other things I should keep an eye out for!

In theory, it could be possible to run a GPU with more than one 6/8-pin connector, however I understand why you are thinking about it, as the GPUs with the single connectors should be below 430W for a whole system. You could always look out for the NVIDIA 8-series of GPUs when they're released which should have performance with a smaller power requirement compared to comparative models of the previous series of cards.

CX430 only has 1 8 pin PCI-E power connector for a video card. However, that doesn't mean that you can't also use a molex to 6 pin adapter on it if your molex connectors aren't being used for anything. You don't have to limit yourself to a video card with just 8 pins or less because you have that particular power supply.

R9 270 has only one 8 pin.

I think the 270x and the 760 are 2 connector.

Of the choices, I would take the 760 from MSI as it will be the most performance of the choices for a single connector.

That being said, you could always add a molex adaptor and get a slightly higher video card like a 280 and still be within power limits. It all depends on the CPU and if your doing alot of overclocking or not.

Back when there was GPU work I ran an 8350 stock + HD7870 @ 1200Mhz on an Antec Earthwatts 380w crunching 24/7 for 4 months without issues. The CX430 has the same 12V rating as the Earthwatts (32A) so I'd say you'll be fine with a 270 or 270x.

The 750Ti might be the better option considering power/performance though.

I would just prefer not to, besides it looking terrible, I have no desires to really test the limits of my PSU. This CX430 isn't amazingly built....

It is a mistake to assume that a the same GPU always requires the same power connectors. Sometimes, the board is factory overclocked and has more pins than a non-overclocked board. Also, sometimes you will see underclocked GPUs that don't need the power connector at all. You just need to check every board that you are considering to confirm it only requires 1 8 pin connector.

I hope you are aware that your motherboard has ONLY PCIe2 (x2) slots. Unless you use both slots, you"ll have only half that of current (PCIe3) generation cards' bandwidth. That's the best-case-scenereo, given I'm so drunk. But I'd always tell my friends to wait for Maxwell in any case.

Even the 7990 is only slightly limited by PCI-e 2.0. Also, @MxPhenom 216 I meant I didn't know what his PSU has. I know mine perfectly well. 1x6 and 1x8 on the GPU, 8 pin (4+4 on my PSU) CPU power and the standard 20+4 ATX power connector. The 20+4 doesn't quite plug in all the way though. :/

You might be able to get away with a 760. Otherwise a 660 will work.

Well, the problem with the CX series is the quality is not great, I would not really be comfortable running expensive or powerful dGPUs on a PSU like that.

What games are going to be played? I really like the GTX750Ti, they overclock really well too.

I think it really just comes down to how much you want to spend.

replace the psu ffs you can get a good 600W for ~60.00
even medium @ 1080p is going to be asking a awful lot from a 750ti
also a kitten drowns in a gutter every-time you use one of those molex adaptors
