I'd say a 780 overclocks greater however it comes down to the sample tbh. One of my 780s overclocks like an absolute beast whereas the second one not so much (granted they are pretty heavily factory OCed but still). One of my friends has an r9 290 (non-x Gigabyte Windforce model) and has had issues getting it over 1100mhz on core which is pretty sad tbh. Take this with a grain of salt though, as it is only one sample. Price performance though the 290 is a winner in my books. You can get one for $440AUD here which is absurd considering a 780 is ~$600 and a 280X is $360-400.

my recommendation would be get the 250gb evo =better price performance ratio.
and dont judge your gpu decision on overclcock that you cannot know before buying-if ya get a dude in oc=what now.
both cards are good stock and stock should be your decision plus oc is few extra frames.
which resolution you will game on in the next years is more important.

greets

for me 290 has better price performance but a lot of peeps prefer nvidia drivers i think, but personally i have not had any probs with ati drivers.
so i would go with lower price and with full hd you will not have probs with either card maxing current games.

hmm ok for each card which model would you recommend?

I know for 290 lots say sapphire tri x but i see windforce with higher core clock for about $35 cheaper.

I'd go for EVGA's models with an ACX cooler or Gigabyte's Windforce X3 for a GTX 780

For an R9 290/290x I'd go Sapphire Tri-X or Vapor-X. I'd avoid Gigabyte models for the R9 290/290X as I've heard quite a few horror stories, more than there normally is.

On the topic of monitors I would NOT recommend the Asus VS248H, I had the smaller VS228H and it had pretty severe banding. TBH I wouldn't exactly recommend the other Asus you have there, I'd go with a nice IPS panel or something like that. I didn't notice any difference in lag between a TN and a fast IPS panel (ie my AOC i2757).

for the 780 thinking about superclocked acx ($500)or dual ftw acx ($465) and the dual ftw acx has higher core clock
for 290 everyone says sapphire tri x

unless anybody can recommed something better?

also does the 290 really have 5-10 fps advantage in most games compared to 780?

which of these will oc better?

In an attempt to sound neutral, the performance scale is 290<780<290X<780TI. It is worth noting that somewhere it was discovered that the 780's have a higher OC potential, but as said repeatedly, not every GPU clocks the same at all. It's always been a lottery.

As for 290's, everyone recommends the Tri-X, simply because it's the best all rounder from all AIB partners. Cool, quiet, performance. Shame it's yellow...
For any NVidia buyers in the US, I recommend EVGA, simply because their RMA is within the US, so there's no shafting of the customer. Asus RMA is a goddamn nightmare, and Gigabyte have decent RMA, unfortunately all their people are asian and not well versed in the english language. That's all the experience I've had with NVidia sellers. I had 3 Gainward cards, and they performed well and never broke, nothing special.

Also you have 2 threads where you're asking the same thing. Don't do that. Pick one thread and stick with it.
