Do you use ad blocker on TPU?

I use tracking protection which blocks most stuff that tracks me. This causes many sites to not display adds at all, since apparently they only know how to advertise while also wanting to see everything I do online.

Not in TPU however! Nothing gets blocked here, and it makes me quite happy to see both the fact that this way I contribute in a very small way, and that TPU knows how to advertise the correct way(or use some sort of tracking that doesn't get filtered out hehe).

I wrote our own ad server (because I got tired of the junk out there). We do not track you, other than log the time and IP for an ad view/click, and use the IP for country/continent targeting.

And that is very much appreciated! Apart from maybe saving a couple of percentages of poweruse on mobile devices(a very weak argument), there really is no reason why one would want to block adds on this site.

Since TPU's ads are noninvasive and minimally annoying I allow them. It's a nice respite from sites such as Tom's Hardware where on ocassion 50% of the viewable page area is ads and of course the ever-so-annoying full page ads that you have to click out of.

Forgot I had turned off AdBlock for something, went to Tom's and saw this. (1920x1080 page size) I calculated it and it came out to be less than 30% of the initial viewable page is actual data/navigation. Ads make up 54% of the page and blank space making up the remaining ~16%.

Honestly, I've never felt that TPU has had intrusive ads. In fact I almost never notice them so I would have to say that's an indication that W1zz is doing something right.

I made a "Thank You TPU" thread back in March regarding Hardforum's link hijacking. I think it goes without saying that I'm also greatly appreciative of the minimal amount of ads on TPU.

problem is my internet speed is atrocious, so leaving ads to load up really slows things to a crawl.

Newegg does the same thing a lot of the time. Oddly, Adblock Plus considered it non-intrusive and actually lets it through if you have the option set to let non-intrusive advertising through. I think the reason it lets it through is because it isn't animated, and you can't click on it, it is just a static background image.

You can manually block annoying stuff in Adblock, either by selecting it or right click -> inspect -> find in the html code which image you want to block, then open that in a new window, tell adblock to block it based on url

No, although if any thing is remotly from addresses like this iad23s08-in-f2.1e100.net or google ads they are automatically blocked by my firewall. But no i don't block TPU ads for reasons said above.

I wasn't up until a month ago then TPU started displaying giant animated banners in the upper right hand corner
I toggle it as needed on most sites
my personal policy is that with recent versions of AB+ it tells you how many ads its blocking and if its over 15 It stays enabled
