Is x99 chipset a lot better bet then z97. I know its updated haswell-e but the real question for me is I plan to buy more GPUs after some time and prices drop and get at least 2 or 3 total and it would be nice to go x16/x16/x16. The million dollar question is there a big speed difference between x16/x8 than x16/x16. I know that haswell costs more but if you really get more speed then I think it's worth it but if all you really get is 2% then its obviously a waste.

Depends on the user. An average user will not appreciate the X99, but if you require loads of functionality and power then X99 begins to make sense, especially for the additional cores.

The biggest difference between X99 and everything else on the market is it will be the first chip to support DDR4. Expect DDR4 memory to cost about 20% more than DDR3.
Core i7 on X99 supports 6-8 cores, Core i7 on Z97 supports 4 cores.
X99 has more PCI Express lanes than Z97. If you're serious about installing three GPUs, X99 may be worth it for that reason alone.
