you do more than to just emulate it as an xbox 360. you can use the touchpad to control the mouse as well. or is that PS4?

That article is over 4 years old. I'm fairly certain MotionJoy doesn't require that anymore as I've uninstalled/reinstalled it and never had to boot with unsigned drivers. It works great and is very simple to setup, and the 360 emulation is the best option because lots of games support 360 controllers.

PS3 controller has no touchpad.

Is this about the special functions of the PS3 game pad, or simply trying to make it work on a PC wirelessly? If it's the latter, you'd make it easier on yourself buying something like a Logitech Rumblepad controller which comes with it's own wireless dongle.

Alternatively, you can get one of those fancy game controller-to-USB adapters. Works out of the box but the driver software is recommended since it's needed for stuff like re-mapping keys and the likes.

You don't need that for PS3 controllers. They're plug & play USB. On the other hand, for wireless, the SCP DS3 software linked (or rather described by the video) in the second post works great with any supported Bluetooth receiver such as this for <$2

If you want xbox 360 controller emulation on only certain games that require Xinput with wired USB on a DS3, x360ce does that.
