Been given the opportunity to possibly shift both my 680s in one go.

Ive read reviews that 780 SLi is pretty solid and for the most part quite a few games scale exceptionally well with SLi

Im not gonna be upgrading my monitor anytime soon, but at the same time I want something that will push frames and Im noticing a little lag in BF4 when everything is set to ultra settings but with AA turned off to save have to buffer loads more textures.

I know GTX880 is just around the corner, but im not too fussed that i might not be running the most top-end cards so long as im still getting decent frames with no lag or stutter.

Ive also thought about keeping my 680s too until next month hopefully when the GTX880 drops but i might not get the opportunity to sell both my 680s again like this.

Depends on the price youre getting for the 680s and the price on top that the 780s will cost you. in my view.

More info required.

Well, If i sell off both 680s I'll be able to get a 780 without too much trouble....

It seems like a downgrade as im trading in 2x680s for 1x780 but I dont necessarily have to go ahead with it & its highly likely that i wont, but at the moment im just weighing up my options. Probably sell my 680s at £170 each, I'll try and get £200 for them obviously but i dont think that will go down too well as you can get B-Grade 770s for just a little over £200

If that's the case, then no. There's absolutely no point in selling a pair of 680's to get a single 780 with the 880 off the door.

Not a single 780 - Check the title. I stated that i can purchase a 780 if i sell off 2 680s but the other 780 would need to come out of my own pocket and the price of those are dropping.

Picking up a pair of 780's when the 8xx series drops is the way I'd go if I were in your situation.... the prices will be significantly lower (assuming the 8xx brings 'great and wonderful things' to the table) and the value for money on your end higher as a result.

In the mean time, I'd concentrate on 'manning it up' a bit by selling off one of those 680's to get the best used price for you... the longer you wait in that department, the higher the loses will be for you, as youre aware.

Yes, it'll be a struggle with a single 680 at your resoluton; you may even have to play on High instead of Ultra (ohhh the humanityyyy!!!11), but the end goal is a pair of shiny 780's and you know you'll love that lol :toast:

Yeah what XL said, sell the 680s asap, then wait for the 880 to come out then get the 780. but then again you never know the 880s might have ridiculous power efficiency, that's what I'm hoping for personally.

also have you considered the GTX 870 if that turns out to be good?

Ive thought about that too...

I have 3-4days to decided if i want to shift all my cards to one guy or split them up. Cuz i know i definitely have a buyer for my other 680 if i decide to keep one for the time being.....

real world problems man.

I read it all. I don't see the point of buying a 780 (or two) with the 800 series right off the door, let be the money you'll get from selling your 680's sooner or later.

well the problem is trying to find buyers who will take it for a decent price when the time comes - I have two of them right now. One seller can wait as hes a close friend, the other cant as he lives a good 2-3hrs drive away and im currently fixing up his PC.

The point being that the GTX870, if nVidia's recent releases speak any volume, will perform about the same as a 780 (+/-)... aside from that, the GTX780 will probably consume more power and be warmer.... but, cost a significant amount less in the used market.

So the point is, price vs performance ratio. Somewhat along the lines of why you got the 4770k instead of waiting to see what the X99 platform brings, right? ;)

Anyyyy way.... back to topic.

If youre searching for more frame buffer only and not more fps (which I assume is the case as SLi 680's are still strong), have you considered a pair of AMD cards? For the price you'd get for those 680's, a 'sidegrade' to the bigger buffered 280X or 290 non-X may be worth considering as it will mean minimal wonga out your own pocket and even a potential boost in FPS.

Prefer green camp because of less SLi issues.

I have considered getting 2 cheap 290's (not the 290X) Ive also thought about side grading to 2 770s with 4GB buffer.

Stop being stuck in 2005, it may save you some money lol ;)

The 290's are certainly worth looking at either way.... powerhouse of a card for a (relative) steal of a price.

Nope. I had 5850s & 6970s & I had so much random BSODs in ARMA II, Broken crossfire profiles etc etc. Im done with that shit. Plus they still havent come up with a proper fix for frame pacing.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
290s are great bang for buck though but drink too much... might need a new PSU to run 2 of them :p

The point being that the GTX870, if nVidia's recent releases speak any volume, will perform about the same as a 780 (+/-)... aside from that, the GTX780 will probably consume more power and be warmer.... but, cost a significant amount less in the used market.

So the point is, price vs performance ratio. Somewhat along the lines of why you got the 4770k instead of waiting to see what the X99 platform brings, right? ;)

Actually I bought my 4770K ages ago. As for buying into the tech that will be older, let's put it this way, would you buy a 285 over a 460/465? I wouldn't. Thinking that way I wouldn't buy a 780 over a 870 either.

Well.... Ive decided to keep my 680s now anyway, I just bought a B-Grade 280X for the PC im working on. Guess im just gonna have to ride these 680s into the ground :p

Anyway, thanks to everyone who voted and left their opinions, you helped me make a decision even though i decided to go against the votes. We shall see what wonders the GTX880s bring.
