one broken pin on socket 1366

Hi guys i have received my asus p6t deluxe v2 and when i was testing it before put the cpu in the socket i have see that 1 pin was broken so this can cause problems or is better contant asus and make it repair?

Depending on what pin, it is, it could cause major or minor problems, or maybe not even start up. I definately wouldn't use it, on the slight chance that it ruins your cpu. And I don't know how expensive it will be to repair, because 1366 boards seem to be rarer than 1366 CPU's. So, if you aren't willing to change sockets, repair may be your only option....or hope ASUS can send you something that hasn't been too roughed up/refurbished.

nope it was on ebay and all seems ok but when i was going to open the socket one pin was broken another bent but i repair it.
so my only way is contact asus and see what they could do?

Are you still within the Buyer's Protection period on e-bay? Even if no warranty was given, you've still got a valid claim to return it and get money back, if it is within the time period.

i cant because the guy stated in the page that he didnt take it back so or i try with the broken pin or i have to find someone that to send it for repair

if the item was stated in working condition then he has to take it back even if he says he wont or will. Its ebay protection cause he stated it was in WORKING condition.

If he represented the board as in good working order, eBay doesn't care if he doesn't accept returns, they should have your back for the seller misrepresenting the sale.

That stinks! I feel for you man. You might try posting here to look for a 1366 board from a TPU member: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/forums/buy-sell-trade-giveaway-forum.43/

That sucks. The datasheet for the CPU is more important and will tell you what the pin is for.

i search and i found that the datasheet of the w3520 is the same as the i7 920 but with the ecc memory support so if the pin the from the ecc memory support it should work because i dont use non ecc memory?

Yea then you are pretty much screwed. He knew the pin was broke and probably tried the board before giving up and putting it off on someone else. You could try a RMA through ASUS if they go by serial number. I once bought a ASUS AM2+ board off ebay knowing it was broken but got it for pretty much the price of shipping and then turned around and RMA'd to asus for a brand new board.

Technically they are pins in the socket that could be bent/broken and the motherboard still work. Only real way of knowing it to test. The board I have at work had about 4 bent pins and I fixed all but one and it was so bad I had to do the best I could but the board still works and have had no weird issues except when my PSU was on its way out.

Double (triple) check that pin. It may be responsible for more than just ECC checking, but since it doesn't have anything to do with power, you're probably safe trying it. Run some memory diagnostics if you get it to boot and OS installed. And... let us know how it goes

ASUS won't repair it tho replacing the socket requires BGA soldering asus would most likely either do nothing or charge you for a replacement
you should't have attempted to repair it your self now EBAY won't cover you and neither will ASUS if you tell them that you where in there monkeying around

basically: if it doesn't work you are fucked

i didnt broke nothing one pin is missing the other was bent and i have fixed it

doesn't matter ASUS will say it was your fault and so will ebay
this is why on LGA plaforms if the Seller doesn't post a HIGH RESOLUTION picture of the socket you don't buy it
install the cpu and see if it will post you may need to move the memory around trying differn't slots if the pin was for the IMC you really need to post some high detail pictures of the socket so we can see what the damage is it might be repairable
