Yeah I have played Planetscape. It looked bad, just like Diablo, but it had good story. Diablo hasn't got one. I remember being incredibly cheap, compared to what i've paid for Far Cry.....but it was ,back then, just released so it was worth the money.

HAH! Tallencor, all this DS talk got you going again! Nice....wish i could do the same with my Mass Effect. But on the bright side for me,this thread that i started is actually helping. I found a game to play: Half Life 2. Thank you Spaceman Spiff.

Here's my audacity. It sucks and my heart cried when i played that one. If Microsoft Studios would have put there backs into it, in creating DS 3,we could have easily got something to rival or maybe even beat Dragon Age. There is a +1 to this. DS 3 works good playing it with a friend.

I actually kind of felt betrayed when I played it to be honest. My spouse however loved it. Although she has never played the first 2. And yes Ahhzz you are correct I was almost scared to mention it due to the possible reaming even if the mention was of a bad nature. lol.

You needed a 5 page thread to find out about Half Life 2?

I found out about the game ages ago.Everybody telling me how amazing it is ,reviews on all the game sites etc. For some reason there was always something else to play. I'm giving it a shot, cuz of the Fakefactory Cinematic Mod.It is the only reason. If the game will be good ( i haven't started playing it yet) so much for the better.
For example, you know they say Total War:Shogun 2 is the best TW game ever made. I did not feel it like that :( It just wasn't my thing. I loved Rome and Medieval 2,but not Rome 2.

Finished it!
To bad only gamers read this thread. Because if there's anybody out there that never played a game. Stood back and watched a friend play CS or WoW,and said to themselves "and this is why i don't play video games". I feel for you ,and totally understand. There is nothing captivating in farming mobs or running around with a gun. I have to let my wounds heal and admit that i wasted hours days and months on mmorpg's & random shooters. But i am and always will be a story driven gamer. So this goes out to you non gaming person.
If you would only play a game, then play this! An incredible emotional and captivating story in which you are involved 100%. Feel the anger, laugh ,cry, get scared and live every moment in this epic adventure.
The Walking Dead is awesometacular

While i did have a lot of really special memory moments, System Shock 2 (you can buy it on GOG as well, http://www.gog.com/game/system_shock_2) is still the one that takes the crown and it's really a shame that both companies, Looking Glass and Irrational Games are now gone.

It was one of the longest games i've played, the graphics were amazing and the game would never be the same running on any other engine than the Dark Engine. The way how artists faked bump mapping in age and time when bump mapping didn't even exist is amazing and one of the reasons why the game still looks bloody good even after 15 years. Yeah, it's that old already. Because of this bump mapping effect it doesn't even feel so low poly count until you really look hard and that gives it some sort of soft and techy feel to the environment. And it's the reason it makes both ships, Von Braun and Rickenbacker such nice places to walk around (if you exclude all the terrifying monsters roaming on them).

The other part is interactivity. There were bunch of games back then that were just basic shooters with a hint of a story. System Shock 2 plays like you're watching a 30 hour blockbuster interactive movie with amazing story full of twists and amazing stuff happening. In other games you just shoot stuff and if you had to read some text it was already very advanced. System Shock 2 supplied story through text logs found through the ship, audio logs, direct link messages and just by exploring the ships. It is a perfect blend of shooter and RPG. You can upgrade your statistics, your weapons (you even have to maintain them otherwise they break!), change different types of ammo, recharge weapons, hack turrets and doors, research objects, look for items stashes and use chemicals to improve or research stuff. I know there were RPG games before it and also original System Shock 1, but the second one just so perfectly blended visuals and audio with the story and gameplay it's still pretty much unmatched experience in my book.

I can still remember how terifying it was to play the demo (Med Sci level of the ship). When things start to fall apart after you wake up from cryo sleep to that window where you first see a hybrid annelide chasing some woman. That was really a terrifying feeling when you were standing there just with a wrench and that thing killed that woman with some sort of shotgun sticking out of its arm. Every noise it happened later on was the fear it was that thing. And that's how most of the game plays until you get some heavy weapons. And then you meet rumblers and cyborg midwives. And you're again back at the start haha. And the EAX, man this is the reason why i miss it so much. Dropping glass bottles of orange juice and heavy metal wrench on the metallic ground never sounded this pure. And how monsters talking to themselves echoed through the ship corridors, it was a skin cawling experience that just can't be brought to life with any of the crap software sound engines companies use these days.

The game actually looks this good during gameplay as it does on the video above. Some games don't age too well, but System Shock 2 did. Dark Engine had its problems, but the way it delivers the visual experience, it's just unmatched for such an old game. There are many games that were released later and don't look as good today. Man, i could go on and on about this game for hours. If you're a true gamer at heart and you haven't played it yet, you just have to. It's love it or hate it like any other game, but if you happen to love it, you'll appreciate the level of detail and attention developers put into this game. It's truly a game made by gamers for gamers. Can't describe it any other way.

It's very late in my country, and almost did not read through the hole thing, but now that i did..."a game made by gamers for gamers". I've heard this before, from the creators of Darksiders 2, in a interview of them. And the thing is Darksiders 2 is a bad game. This just came from the top of my head,or memory that is.
As far as System Shock goes.....i believe you Rejzor. I never played SS,and don't think i ever will. Here i am at HL2 modded. New stuff is all the time coming out,and it's hard to keep up. Up until now, this year,it was very simple. Not many big titles have been released. I've pre-ordered Dragon Age : inquisition, and i know new Call of Duty is coming out. Still looking to give Child of light a try.
Hope System Shock 3 will come out

I have DS2 on dvd upstairs somewhere, I guess I should reinstall it and give it a shot, currently playing Path of Exile right now.

I tried System Shock, it didn't do much for me, Doom 3 had a similar kind of environment but it felt more urgent, I liked that. A lot of people didn't like Doom 3 but it is my favorite singleplayer FPS of all time.

Have you tried Path of Exile? Its pretty similar to Diablo/DS in some ways, but a bit faster paced I think. Also its free which is great. I'd recommend it.

1. Homeworld - My favorite story of any game. I've never had such a feeling of isolation in space with any other game. Epic soundtrack. Challenging gameplay. Remastered version coming soon.

+9000. Every time I think about it, chills go on my spine. Best game for me ever.

I've went through a friends game collection of old cd's,and this is what i've found. Most of them, personally never played. The one that i can remember is Enclave & Second Sight.S.Sight was great, wile Enclave (with AoE2) is the only game from that lost era that i would reinstall. Still don't think i can get past 10% of the game....the puzzles are too hard.

Hmm best games for me would be;
1. 1NSANE (the one from like 2000 or 2001 I think was) - the soft body physics were just amazing along with the infinity maps. I still play it to this day.
2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
3. GTA IV
4. Company of Heroes (not so much no. 2 but more so the original one)
5. Colin McRae DiRT 1
