Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced its second generation Chromebooks. Featuring an all-new sleek design that houses a 13-inch display in a compact 12-inch chassis, Toshiba's Chromebook 2 delivers a Chromebook experience that's tuned for entertainment, while providing versatile performance and fantastic battery life for productivity seekers.

Toshiba will offer two versions of its Chromebook 2 - an entry model with a standard HD display and a premium model featuring a brilliant Full HD (1920 x 1080) display with IPS technology. Both models feature a sound system tuned by Skullcandy that delivers audio with attacking bass, natural vocals and precision highs and sets a new bar for Chromebooks.

"Our hardware design is evolving alongside Chrome OS. The Toshiba Chromebook 2 has the right mix of features and performance to make it a standout device in the category," said Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "We designed our new Chromebooks for both the consumer and education markets, focusing on key experience-driving features that cross boundaries - a great screen, awesome audio and a stylish, thin and light design for greater portability."

See More, Do More on a Bright Full HD IPS Display
Take in more of the web, watch movies and videos with the utmost clarity or simply get a broader view of documents and presentations on Toshiba's premium model offering a 13.3-inch diagonal screen with a native 1920x1080 resolution. In-plane switching (IPS) technology delivers enhanced color reproduction and accuracy, plus wider, more accurate viewing capabilities.

A Progressive Design That's Sleek, Slim and Stylish
Toshiba's Chromebook 2 features an all-new chassis design with sleek curves and a slim profile. Topped with a silver textured resin lid on the outside and comfortable Chrome keyboard and spacious touchpad on the inside, the device also features a fanless design for quiet operation. To pump up the style even more, Toshiba will also offer color cases in Charcoal, Aqua and Rose as an add-on.

Supreme Sound by Skullcandy
The first Chromebook to deliver a branded audio experience, Toshiba's device features strategically placed front-facing stereo speakers that have been tuned to bring quality and attitude by the audio experts at Skullcandy, a leading audio headphone provider and lifestyle brand. On-board dual array microphones are also included to enable rich video chats.

"Skullcandy has a history of pioneering in audio by combining art, color and graphics and trend with high quality audio technology to make accessories that balance lifestyle and performance," said Sam Paschel, CCO of Skullcandy. "Working with Toshiba enables us to bring an enhanced audio experience to Chromebooks that lives up to the high standards we set for our headphones."

Powered by the latest generation Intel Celeron processor, equipped with 802.11ac wireless connectivity and available with 2GB and 4 GB memory configurations, Toshiba's Chromebook 2 delivers smooth performance and fast web browsing. With battery life capability of up to 11.5 hours on the HD model and up to 9 hours on the Full HD model, consumers and students will enjoy greater unplugged freedom.

Don't want to sound like a noob, but is the Celeron inside based on Intel's latest Haswell and what storage options does it come with: 64GB, 128GB SSDs?

Very nice machine.

CPU - you can't tell these days when you read 'Celeron'. Based on past Chromebooks, one would hope it's Haswell-based, but it could be an Atom-based Celeron. There's probably very little storage since it's a Chromebook. 16GB, maybe 32GB I'd say.
