So I'm kind of looking for which games are multithreaded as a general reference. Also for the fact that I will be using a G3258 for the time being.

I would use a rule of thumb that Only games from the Last 2 or So years are utilizing quad core CPU's(Speaking of it being common I mean). I am uncertain what You mean by "multithreaded games" though. If You mean multi-Core utilization, then what I said above.Anything Above 4 Cores, has GOT to be a very small number of games , If even that.

Just about any modern game with use 2 cores.

codemasters racing games use cores well.

Virtually all modern games create many threads. The problem is that generally only one thread is super heavy (the one handling drawing frames). This is why a lot of games that run on 8+ threads can still run well on a dual core (one core handles drawing, the other handles everything else).

Games are predominantly GPU limited these days. Brand spankin' new games are generally memory hungry too (see Battlefield 4).

I've read that the G3258 can match the 4790K in games that aren't milti core (corrected) optimized. I'm building a budget 4k gamer. I have the processor and 2 290s. I want a third then slap it all together. I'm also debating getting a FX-8350, because I hear the gpu takes over at 4K

almost every game is multi threaded, but if you want heavily multi threaded look for DX11 titles.

that comment about "GPU takes over at 4k"

seriously, avoid anyone who gives you that logic. they're telling you 'get a slower CPU because the GPU might bottleneck'

all that will do is give you two bottlenecks. its not going to help you in any way, its just how some people justify buying slower hardware so they dont feel dumb about it after the fact.

Disable core parking. I have all 8 threads going no matter what game or app I run. And my system runs smoother. Why? If a game can use 4 threads, the os can still use the other 4 threads for it's overhead. It's just simple math.

i agree with disabling core parking to help, but not for the same reasons. its just been defaulted a bit too aggressively towards power saving, as opposed to performance.

If my memory is not failing back in the days Quake 4 had pretty good multithread support and I also remember Enemy Territory: Quake wars using more than 4 cores. I think Rage has pretty good multithread support.
