Hi!

I have an R9 280X Tri-x OC since February 2014,
and i have buy new R9 280X Tri-X OC this month (september 2014),
i see that my first card have bios version (015.039.000.000[...]) and
this new card have bios version (015.044.000.008[...]) ...

This new card have Sapphire Logo illuminated, and the first card not.
But on both cards have same wire (black & red) for illuminated logo.

Do you know is on the first card the difference of release bios is that can illuminated or not Sapphire Logo ?
I think that led's for Sapphire Logo are present also on it.
Can you confirm it ?

If the one is in yellow fan casing you have a tri x. If one is in blue fan casing its a vapor x. I wouldnt try to update a tri x to a vapor x bios.

Newer card = newer updated pcb Id bet and flashing may not take on the other card.

I know my msi cards are the same but one is a newer version and the other is older.. If I flast the older card with the newer bios it wont even work.

Be cautious and be sure to back up the bios before flashing if you decide to try.

normally I would go though the whole speil about how tinkering with the bios isn't gonna do anything and if you do always make a backup
but we all know that op's not gonna listen and hes gonna flash it anyway and end up with a dead card
sigh.......

No... I express myself badly due

I have buy Sapphire R9 280X Tri-X OC 3GB (1100Mhz/1600Mhz) Yellow & Black in February 2014.
And i have but another R9 280X Tri-X OC 3GB (1100Mhz/1600Mhz) Yellow & Black in September 2014.
But on the model of February 2014 -> Sapphire Logo = not illuminated.
and on the model of September 2014 -> Sapphire Logo = illuminated.

I notice that the only difference is the BIOS version.

Then! the question is: If I flash the card in February with the bios of the September; Is that it can solve the thing?

I hardly think a newer bios version could "solve" it. I guess that the card you had in september is a newer version of the TriX. I had mine in july.
Maybe someone in here can confirm that older TriX cards are not backlit ?
Otherwise you can update the bios of the older one , shouldn't hurt anything.

For my first card was released shortly after the Toxic.
I think she came out with a BIOS disabling the LEDs
not to overshadow the Toxic.
In June / July when the Tri-X (non-oc) was released it had LEDs.
I think my version of Tri-X OC correctly in the bios mention indicating LED Off

Older Tri-X coolers don't have the lighting..It's pretty easy to tell. Take off the air cooler or just look in the side(there is a small gap) and if you don't see any lighting then it won't work.

As someone already mentioned it, the Vapor X cooler had the backlight and the Toxic range of coolers had the backlight as well previously.

Assumption.
Lets be honest here it is easily resolved. A small lighting strip stuck in the back of the sapphire logo should suffice if it can actually get through the plastic. Mine can't because it isn't clear, it's a metalic in colour.

The card in question in a very unpleasant vibration in the ear. So! return collateral; maybe I would have a newer version in return? ;)

Does it sound like a cricket is in your graphic card ? I have had the same issue , in fact it was because the fan was touching the radiator. It is really annoying, especially when the fan is running over 50%.

Yes indeed it must be that ... the card is already now in transit;-) the card has only 7 months I decided to start the warranty.

I invest a lot in the computer and it's not for undergo unpleasant malfunctions;)

I make sure to silence and the right temperature which is already not always easy. then I take advantage of the guarantee; normal right?

Yeah, return the card for a new one for that problem.

I wouldn't think that the logo being illuminated has anything to do with the bios. It seems defective.

^ This. It's not a matter of BIOs. The card is defective.

OP, judging by your pictures, it looks to me like you have the Toxic version of the 280X - the backplate on both of the cards is a dead giveaway, as the regular Tri-X version doesn't have a backplate I think. Can someone clarify this?

Both cards are "Sapphire R9 280X Tri-X OC".

While following the return guarantee. I now have two identical cards with the Sapphire logo illuminated.

@Gmr_Chick

Tri-X OC = GPU: 1100Mhz / VRAM = 6400Mhz
Toxic = GPU: 1150Mhz / VRAM = 6400Mhz

The rest is the same as 100%

That's all;)

Glad to see you got your problem solved.

I wasn't aware that the Tri-X version came with a backplate. I thought only the Toxic version came with a backplate.

In fact, the only 280X Tri-X & Toxic have the backplate.
The Vapor-X 280X Tri-X does not have backplate.
While there has been "Radeon 7970 6Gb Toxic" with the backplate;)

The TRI-X OC are just 50Mhz clocked less than Toxic.
The Tri-X (non-oc) are reviewed considerably lower megahertz)

In France a 280X Toxic = 350 €
And Tri-X OC = 240 €
and Tri-X non-oc = 199€

The 50Mhz more are a bit too expensive! (smile) excess cost of 280X Toxic in France is not really justified.

Thanks for clarifying that URBAN303. :)

Heh, sounds like the 280X Toxic is really expensive over there, too... :(

Hey URBANE303, I'm interested in getting the same card you have. Could you tell me what the model number is?

Is it either 100363-5L or 100363-2SR (got those numbers from newegg)?

Thanks! :)
