hello everyone , im new here.

I currently have Corsair Dominator 2x2gb DDR3 1600mhz ram ( 2010) ( Photo and specs details added)

In cpu z it used to show something like 667mhz ( in single channel ) , As it is a 1600mhz ram so from my bios i changed the FSB ratio to 1:4 and finally got the 800mhz ( 1600mhz dual channel).

Now the real question: I have 2 more empty slots and i want to add more 4 gigs of ram, ( bought my ram in 2010) , so what is the best and compatible ram that i can get now.

i dont want that the fsb changes i have made creates any problem with the new rams .

Please i need proper guidance.

PS. my mobo is MSI 890fxa GD70 and i believe it supports 1600 , 1866 , 2133 in OC

Sorry for my poor english

Get the same set of sticks you have now. If you can't get away with it, try to find DIMMs with the same frequency and timings but keeping all the DIMMs the same is the best way to ensure compatibility and stability.

Same frequency and tighter timings memory set at the older slower sticks speed should also work well

That would be my other recommendation. :)

Nothing beats having the same model of memory though, so timings, even secondary and tertiary (for the most part) timings will match up. While the secondary and tertiary timings don't tend to impact performance, they definitely can impact stability. For example, you could have two DIMMs with the same primary timings and frequency but something like the the row refresh cycle time (tRFC) could very well be different, like 105 versus 180 clock cycles. Obviously its adjustable, but given two different DIMMs, it could take a lot of effort to get it stable.

With that all said, if you can find another two of those Corsair Dominators, I would do that unless you plan on replacing all of your DIMMs.

Does this sound reasonable? I tried to keep in mind that you live in India, something used might be cheaper.

thank you both of you :)

so first , i should look for same frequency with same primary and secondary timings. For eg , if get the same specs in a corsair vengeance, should i go for it ?

if i do not then i guess it would be best to sell the existing and get a 2 x 4gb ram.

i have a doubt , msi 890fxa gd70 , how much further ram will it support ? for eg. 1866 , etc .

We do now, Newegg ships to India but the shipping + taxes will make the (or)deal more expensive than local alternatives like ebay/amazon/flipkart et al :nutkick:
