Using nVIDIA card as main GPU with ATi card for extra monitors

I did a bit of googling, but I get conflicting answers. I want to use an nVIDIA card as my main GPU with an old ATi Radeon X300SE to run my secondary monitors while I'm using my backup PC (My main one needs to be used for running some hardware diagnostics and it'll take several days). Is this going to cause any problems? I will be doing a bit of gaming, but the Radeon will only be used to drive the extra monitors.

Should work but physx definitely won't ive used mixed cards a few times on a hybrid physx style and I could always use both gpu's output s.

I think Nvidia has closed all PhysX function when it detects a AMD card in the machine, but i don't remember if it's totally off so he needs the Hybrid SLi patch or something enable it...

Exactly that and it doesn't play nice with win8 , no version of the hybrid physx mod does that I've tried but as far as using the outputs they should work fine.

you can use Cuda for more then just games, but if u use your onboard Intel HD4000 you should be oki with PhysX bcs i got that on my laptop and it works fine with my HD 4600 and Nvidia GTX 860M ^^

From experience, it does run... but games usually may go bonkers what to use and stupidity to use the other card no matter what.

My suggestion is to order some el cheapo basic nvidia card from ebay for 10 quids.

It's an nForce 980a board, the onboard video was stupidly only designed to work in hybrid SLI with a dedicated GPU.

This isn't true, PhysX will still work as long as the nVidia card is the primary card running the game.

Everything I've read says that no matter what, it will disable physx if an AMD card is detected.

yeh that was the last thing i read back in the day too, and i doubt that has changed, or I think we would see more ppl talking about this running a strong AMD card with a dedicated Nvidia card for PhysX...
