It will be with a 5930K and a
MSI X99S GAMING 9 AC or maybe the
ASUS ROG X99 Rampage V Extreme

I always suggest going with the minimum number of GPUs possible, which of the two options available would be the three 980s. For both AMD and NVIDIA there are only a limited selection of games where there is any performance increase by adding a 4th GPU, especially at resolutions less than 4K.

I hope you are getting a different monitor and not keeping the 1920x1080 displays you have listed in your specifications or else more than one card is pointless.

Finally, where can I find 295 X2's so cheap?

If you don't care power consumption, you should go with 2 R9 295X2s.

That was my first thought when I looked at the top of the page. Given the GTX 980's are $550 a pop and three ($1650) are supposedly $550 more expensive than two 295X2's implies that a single 295X2 is also $550. They may well be in the fullness of time, but today???

At 1080p a single GTX 980 or R9 290X is more than enough unless you've got a 120/144 Hz monitor so what I would advise is buy 2 of either of those cards and SLI/Crossfire and use the remaining money to either buy a 1440p or 4K monitor.

28" ASUS PB287Q

SO NO TO 970 or 970's! AND NO TO A SINGLE CARD! Jeapers creepers guys come on
295x2 X2 or 980 Tri SLI

I 'm really leaning towards two 295x2 because of the kewl cooling and the novelty of them baddies, but the tri sli option is about 300 watts less I believe, but heck still undecided.

Money is not the influencing factor here but the absolute highest performance is.

The two 295x2 will cost me exactly $1496 no more no less and 100% brand new.

why no GTX 970s

Only 10% Slower than a GTX 980 and 7% Faster than a 290X but will only cost $987 for 3

SLI then. Don't see why you asked if money is no issue and you're only after performance. Plus you won't be unnecessarily wasting 300W's, but thats personal to me.

well what do you think the tri sli will cost me a little over $550 more than two 295x2's...I really never been green b4 but that's not an issue. thnx.

It will be with a 5930K and a
MSI X99S GAMING 9 AC or maybe the
ASUS ROG X99 Rampage V Extreme

Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm happy to report you have more money than my piggy bank can throw a stick at... Go the GXT 980 Tri Sli and tell the store to "shut up and take my money!".

P.S. The X99 platform is the geek's embodiment of having the "biggest penis" and "mine's bigger than your's". Grab yourself a 4790K and a Maximus VII board and save some serious dough. Use those savings on your new GPU purchase....

All the best :peace:

With crossfired 295X2's it would be worth budgeting for at least a 1400W PSU apparently.

HardOcp said:
As discussed on the front page we ran into a wattage limit with our 1350W PSU and it would shut down during gaming. In order to make this work we hooked up a second PSU to power one of the video cards so we had plenty of power during testing. Total wattage was around 1400W of power peak. Now, obviously your total power is going to depend a lot on your system and other components installed. Our system is very lean, yet it took 1400W of power to run AMD Radeon R9 295X2 CrossFire system.

I'd personally SLI a couple of GTX 980's then go from there.

I think I can speak for almost everyone here with this question:
where are you getting these 295x2s so cheap?
I would go with what others have mentioned here with (970s but it looks like you don't want anything to do with 'em) but 3 980s don't sound too bad but if you are absolutely certain about the 295x2s for that pricing then by all means go for that. You would need a heck of a lot beefier PSU though.

It's not just about the wattage. Make sure the rails are sufficient for the Amperage.

I would go with the AXI that should be sufficient on that front. Jonnyguru approved lol

Yeah I agree the AX1500i is a better choice. and still leaning towards the two 295x2's.

which do you's think is better MSI X99S GAMING 9 AC or the
ASUS ROG X99 Rampage V Extreme

money part not to be factored in. Over clocking and benching and gaming is what the rig is for.

I will let everyone know where the parts are coming from and total price after I get them all ordered and worked out.

It's not just about the wattage. Make sure the rails are sufficient for the Amperage.

Your right. Most people fail to see this when their stability goes haywire when trying to overclock or pair together a couple high-end cards in crossfire or sli.

AMD has warned that the R9 295X2 requires no less than 45 amps of power on the first 12-volt rail of the system power supply and 28 amps on the second. Be advised that this can cause problems even for those with high-end power supply units (PSUs). Just because you have a 1,200-watt power supply doesn't mean it can actually supply that much voltage across a single rail. Some companies ship power supplies with 15 to 20 amps of power across many rails instead of aggregating the capacity into one or two 12-volt rails.

I would definitely say go with 2x R9 295x2.

Yeah I was looking at that too "R9 295X2 requires no less than 45 amps of power on the first 12-volt rail of the system power supply and 28 amps on the second" So the Lepa is out and the AXI is in ... and should handle it very well with a 125 amps on its 12v rail leaving roughly 52 amps available.

Edit : opinion on the mobo choices I gave?
