Did you get it at regular or discounted price? If discounted it might be an open-box or refurbished item. I assume the ebay seller listed it as new, otherwise if it was an used item that was to be expected.

As long as it works as intended I don't think the scratches matter.

edit: looking closely, I think someone removed the keyboard as those dents are where the keyboard flaps are. Maybe your laptop is a refurb that only needed a keyboard replacement. Again, nothing wrong with that but if it is a refurb you should have got it with a discount.

Yes, I actually I forgot to mention in post that even I felt that the Keyboard is replaced so those marks are there. But I have been continuously asking/warning seller that I will not tolerate even a Minor Scratch, but even after agreeing to that they gave me this one.

I don't know whether discounted price or not it's $1200 Laptop.

These very minor scratches are insignificant. So what do you want us to do about it? I mean, you spent the time to take the pictures, wouldn't it be a good idea if you sent those pictures to the seller and ask for a couple dollars for the extremely minor imperfections? If you want a new item, you should of bought a new item, not a refurbished/used one.

Upload a screenie of the original auction. No way we can tell an item was sold as new just by looking at the scratches on it. Give the seller a week to respond then file a dispute with ebay and either get part of the money back or a full refund if you choose to return it

I agree, it looks like the laptop was opened or had the keyboard replaced (Maybe both) based on those spots. Looks like a flat head screwdriver that was stabbed into hose spots to poorly remove it.

I would say if it was listed new and came like that you should complain because that is clearly not new.

It looks like someone tried to pry it open. If your understanding was that it was new, not refurbished, then yeah, bring it up with eBay/seller. It appears to me like it was serviced by someone using a screw driver instead of the proper tools. The condition certainly appears refurbished to me.

Update:-

Thanks all for adding your words and time in this thread.:lovetpu:

I had a conversation with Seller:-

He gave me 3 choice:-

1. Full Refund
2. Get discount on it (Which I told him that he should have already mentioned it before that it is Refurbished and not wait customer to find it and then have a re deal/discount on that)
3. Get it replaced.( After one week new laptops are coming so he is going to give me "Have a look on Laptop and then buy" type of deal.) Which i doubt but still feel better option as no one is Selling this Laptop in India here, not even DELL India, yes the price he is selling is atleast $300 -$400 less than possible price of it here in India.

I have my Desktop capable of doing more than what this laptop can do but I need portable option to run my VM machines which I configure for practicing Unix OS stuff/ work.

Yes, the machine will remain with me till new stocks arrives and I have sent him photo of laptop that it is been packed in box again and kept aside which was optional though and he is OK with that. Laptop is not used till now.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for all.

I would have taken a replacement before making that assumption - Maybe it was a genuine mistake that he gave you a refurbed unit. Mistakes happen. Even Amazon have sent me the wrong item on multiple occasions.

Take a replacement, if it still looks like its been refurbed then send it back for a refund & also report the seller to ebay for false advertising as the goods being sold arent as they describe.

oh man are you seriously retarded or just a troll seeking attention?

everyone knows ebay has bad rep here and there are far better options to buy from like flipkart who offer replace guarantee if product is damaged or even unsealed when bought.

if you got an unsealed product then its obviously been used as a display or a return product or something else.

FUD

There are good ebayers & there are bad ebayers, For the better part most of them are good. Everyones mileage varies when it comes to ebay, Ive had a few issues with a seller about 8-10 months back but any issues ive had with sellers are usually resolved quite quickly without having to resort to opening up a dispute with ebay to deal with it.

Ive been using ebay mainly to buy stuff & occasionally to sell my older hardware & other junk for almost 10years (i think i opened an account between 2001-2003) and I have NEVER had any major issues with wrong item sent, items not arriving or items not as described - Occasionally stuff either doesnt get sent because either the merchants systems go down because of the amount of orders they have or they forget about it but having worked for the local postal service here in the UK for 5years I know how stuff can go missing during processing and im not talking about the staff committing criminal acts... Shit like that DOES happen but what can you do? a lot of the time though things get placed somewhere & forgotten about, the warehouse is pretty big and mail gets lost every day - its unavoidable & quite often some of the staff are incompetent because they've grown too comfortable with the job, Another problem is the hiring of temporary staff but and acts of theft will be taken extremely seriously and any staff will be prosecuted. Over my time there Ive seen 2 or 3 occasions where the cops came to arrest a guy while he was working.

Obviously be cautious when buying goods from certain countries that are known to be 'less genuine' shall we say when it comes to buying stuff from.

Never send goods overseas unless the item is tracked every step of the way - if the buyer doesnt want to pay for the charges then you can void the sale and put it back on auction.

Also - Ebay's rating system cant really be faked easily, unless they hire some people to make a load of bogus transactions with but even then, they would be losing money because whatever they sell ebay takes a cut for the listing & also the final sale price of that item.

Occasionally mistakes are made - dont accuse a seller with 98-99% rating for being a scammer just because he sent the wrong item - that doesn't help anyone.

Maybe you should ask for a partial refund from ebay & report the seller as well, this is assuming you don't have any major problems with this refurbished unit. Recently the problem with laptops being listed on ebay, IIRC even last year, is that they're imported from Thailand &/or other SE Asian countries with the sellers not paying any import duties, that's why they can sell it rather cheaply on ebay since they don't impose strict rules wrt such shady practices & allow seller warranty products with the latter strictly prohibited on flipkart, Amazon et al.

ebay in india is horrible. because shipping here is horrible. flipkart i.e. the most trust worthy shop here as well as amazon, they both use their own shipping services rather than DHL and all.
unfortunately for small sellers(comparatively) like ebay ones, they cant provide that service and hence are crap.
