Right, Bishop was the good android, forgot, but in a way that proves my point. They didn't have to look human just for reasons of a subversive spy mission. Seems all of them looked human in that point of their development, and this take place a bit after the events on Nostromo.

Yeah I get games have their own spin, mostly for gameplay and suspense and giving you hours of play vs minutes then being eaten. LOL But it just seems strange they'd copy so many little exact details of the interior design only to waste a real good opportunity for suspense.

You come up on one of the NPCs in the game and you don't know whether it's an android or human. They could also have good humans and androids, and bad ones. Maybe at some point one of the good humans helps you and adjusts your tracker to recognize androids.

hell, maybe that is in the game and its been kept a surprise. maybe one or two DO look human to throw you off. the "old tech" excuse really could cover it.

I'm willing to bet they have all androids looking different from humans so players will instantly know which is which, but I could be wrong. The main reason I can think of that they would make them look different is so you'll know before they even see you that they'll react with hostility.

Then again, that would still negate much of the potential suspense.

It just occurred to me what you're talking about - there's androids in the game. I thought it was just you and the xeno... ;/

Nope, true to the original movie they have androids and humans mucking about too.

Wonder if one of the androids will have a human "volunteer" for the knife stabbing between the fingers trick Bishop did. LOL

This was in the movie Aliens though, not Alien.

Personally I like the one Ted did better.

I mean, the game is titled ISOLATION and the whole pitch is that you're alone with a Xeno trying to survive. I wasn't aware there would be any more characters to interact with other than maybe Mother or a similar type AI computer on the ship.

Well, Isolation of the type in this game (figuratively I mean), can be worse than just having to deal with one enemy. In that sense she really is by herself. It could also mean the station is isolated from outside help via coms being down though. After all, these aliens are pretty clever.

they've been in numerous videos so far, and most are trying to kill the player, or get killed abruptly.

they're more there as cannon fodder so you can use them to buy yourself time - not to help you or work with you.

So I managed to spend some time with this at EGX.

The alien does have to walk the corridors and move, it doesn't cheat and pop up randomly, not from my experience anyway.

I Will say this, it's hard and I almost pooped a little.

To sum it up in one word.

Intense.

Now go buy it

Good morning one and all,

So.... As you all know I was at EGX London and got to play with Alien: Isolation

Firstly we had a long queue, It wasn't too bad as they had had a large number of consoles to play it on. Unfortunately we were playing on the Xbox One and not PC but I can live with this. During the queue we got given a lovely Alien: Isolation comic book, published by Dark Horse Comics, some other freebies, During the discussion I was told it was "Very Scary game" to which I replied, "Nothing could be as scary as having to sit through the shock of Colonial Marines" I don't think he was too impressed, He was one of the few people there from Sega but they deserved it ;)

We were taken through and shown a video of it first of all, talked to about the game and told if we make it through the challenge then we can win a free T-shirt (I mention this due to what comes later) and at the end we were told to "Prepare to die a lot" which made perfect timing for my phone to go off in a quiet room. Nothing unusual but when your ringtone notification is this.. it makes sense why everyone was laughing.

http://picosong.com/9zEK/

This set the mood for the game and I was still chuckling as I went into the game room.

We Basically got a Tracker, a flamethrower with 2 shots only (and only scares the Xeno, not kills it) and if you look around enough some flares (which I found)

the airlock opens and you have to hide, STRAIGHT away, Xeno approach the end of the corridor which is a T shape. First time I went through I was standing there, looking at a Xeno which charged and decided my face was yummy... DEAD...

Great, we go again and I sneak up to it. Xeno goes passed the corridor without noticing me and I go the other way, crawling and sneaking. I kept my tracker on and noticed he disappeared, did a quick 360 and he wasn't near me. Good... I moved ahead into a room and checked the tracker again.

Beep........................beep..........................beep..............beep........... beep.....beep...... beep.....beep beep *FUCK* *RUNS* beep beep beep beep *STAB* as an Alien tail slices right through my stomach from behind, DEAD AGAIN

Okay, two attempts, two deaths, second time wasn't too bad, I actually made it somewhere.

So Attempt 3, I snuck around and he was moving some distance to my right on the tracker, then went in front and then popped out of a vent next to the box I was hiding behind.... SHIT... Flamethrower... wait no... thats the melee button... OPPS. wrong one as I sat there, I tried to batter a Xenomorph with a piece of piping... Do I need to tell you what happened next? that's right... DEAD.

A couple more attempts and I get closer, on my Last attempt I did it. I snuck around.

Rather than going away from the Xeno, I stayed behind him, he once turned to come back the way and I hid, went passed him and followed him again, I got to the end.. Woohoo... Ten seconds away from completing it and getting a free T-shirt...

*Tap Tap Tap on my shoulder* Sorry, Time is up. I had near enough completed it but I had run out of time. No T-shirt for me.

So... Overview.

Graphics are surprisingly beautiful, Dark, horrifying, the light provided by the fires are amazing and the attention to detail is superb, it is truely like it was in Alien (the first movie)

The Xeno, C-A have spent so much time into this and I am glad they did, from the limited 10-15minutes I got I could tell it was random, each time it was different, he never ever jumped around or AI Cheated as far as I could make out. if you did truely get away from him you would get some peace.

Now if the AI is set to steer back to you once he gets further out. Possibly. I was only in a small space so who knows but the video below shows you can go sometime without seeing him.

You'll also 15.25 you'll see the amazing death. This is the level we played and the challenge, apparently someone did it in less than 45 Seconds, I am shocked by this tbh.

Watch the gameplay they posted it does really give you the feel of what it was like.

The only thing I think this game will suffer from is the repetitiveness of going over the same bit each time and dying a lot but this could be made better with more checkpoints.

This is definitely worth a watch.

If you don't want to ruin your experience, avoid watching the trailers and gameplay videos. These days, companies show way too much of the gameplay and that ruins everything. I remember old days of playing System Shock 2 demo (Med Sci first deck) first and then full game. Or the Half-Life 1 Uplink where level was a separate never seen in the actual retail game. The experience was incredible. But for example with Bioshock, i've watches so many trailers before i already knew half of the tricks and enemies. Not cool. It was still a really good game but it would be far better without the knowledge that i had in advance.

That's why i only watches the first teaser of Alien Isolation and i'll keep it that way...

I think you're assuming too much there.

This game is not that deep story wise, and all they're showing in the videos is gameplay elements basically. And despite all that, there were people failing to repeat their success of completing the speedrun objectives in the challenge maps at EGX merely for common sense things like not taking their time and crouching, not crafting items, not avoiding traps, not timing use of the flame thrower well, etc, which are either obvious or things they would show you in game before you even start playing.

SOILERS,...eh, I mean SPOILERS
The game literally plays with only a few standout factors you need to know. 1) The line on the tracker is where your objective is, 2) the dot on the tracker is obviously the alien, 3) there are optional side objectives along the way, 4) certain sounds the alien makes cue things like it getting into a vent, which buys you some time, and 5) open ceiling vents with dripping alien fluids are traps to avoid.

I'm not assuming anything, i'm talking from experience... and it doesn't have anything to do with story. Just knowing random things changes the experience.

Nothing will beat AVP2, although I have to say my second favorite of them all is Colonial Marines.

He might be serious. I waited until all the fixes were out and it wasn't that bad as it was reported to be early on. I did the same thing with Rage, waiting 8 months and I really liked it.

Totally serious. The graphics were standard, good in some parts, better in others. I digged the story, it had it's scary moments, the pace and action flowed well and there was some really neat scene/atmospheres.
It certainly had it's flaws, but as an 'Aliens' game, I thought it blew the AVP reboot out of the water.

Plus it had this again :

Rage ruled. Imagine if it was more open world multi-player like Borderlands... that would be sweet.

...it doesn't have anything to do with story.

Oh really, then if it's just about the superficial gameplay elements, which as most know is all they're showing, why are you even participating on threads about the game risking reading about them?

You can claim you don't want spoilers all you want, which there are few of due to the somewhat minimal content of the game, but here you are almost begging for them.
