Core2 E8400 Or Q6600 ?

I think that would be a good direction...faster, affordable, and more power efficient...and if you get the 3258, overclockable. I still recommend a Biostar B85S3+ for a great budget board...not sure if it can OC a 3258 or not...but for $64....it packs a lot of gusto. Even a 3220 is pretty damn impressive imho.

Gigabyte H87-D3H is a monster overclocker... Best low cost board with a beastly VRM.

I do still miss my 4.25GHz Q9650/P45 UD3P combo. As far as I know, the 9650 is still in use by @fafa21

I can only get my QX9650/UD3P stable up to 3.7GHz. I think it's because all 4 memory slots are filled. I may switch it out to 2x4GB Patriot modules I have on hand so as to lower strain on NB memory controller.

What NB frequencies would those be at? I was pushing way past 470 comfortably on my MIIF, but that's with both the CPU and memory multi at minimum. E7200 was stable at around 3.9GHz

I'd have to check when I get home. Haven't messed with it in over a month.

surprisingly enough, the Q9650 were generally better OC'ers than the QX9650, my 9650/ud3p combo was actually 4.5GHz capable (500*9), but it would not do anything over 500 FSB

Never got 9.5x500 to work on my E7200. No matter what the multi was, I couldn't get it past 4.5GHz for booting without pushing the volts past 1.65...
